Image: ISRO.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>India\u2019s space agency said Wednesday it had successfully landed its Chandrayaan 3 robotic probe on the surface of the Moon. Image: ISRO.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lunar landings have proved challenging recently with the crash of Russia\u2019s Luna 24 probe this weekend, the loss of the Japanese privately-operated Hakuto-R Mission 1 and the failure of India\u2019s own Chandrayaan 2 lander in September 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s descent and landing appeared to go flawlessly. Image: ISRO.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chandrayaan 3 lifted off on July 14, 2023, atop a Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LVM3) from Sriharikota, India. The name of the mission comes from the Sanskrit words \u201cChandra- Moon, Yaan-vehicle,\u201d according to the ISRO.<\/p>\n<p>The lander is carrying a suite of payloads, including a small rover.
