{"id":15670,"date":"2016-03-09T23:52:52","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T15:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/new-gps-satellite-begins-transmitting-to-users-around-the-globe\/"},"modified":"2016-03-09T23:52:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T15:52:52","slug":"new-gps-satellite-begins-transmitting-to-users-around-the-globe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/new-gps-satellite-begins-transmitting-to-users-around-the-globe\/","title":{"rendered":"New GPS satellite begins transmitting to users around the globe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"678\" height=\"381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L_aHda4_6oU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>CAPE CANAVERAL \u2014 Air Force ground controllers have activated service aboard the newest Global Positioning System satellite, achieving that milestone for the final spacecraft in a dozen built in a manufacturing batch to update the constellation.<\/p>\n<p>The GPS 2F-12 craft was launched into the navigation network from Cape Canaveral atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket on Feb. 5.<\/p>\n<p>It underwent testing and checkout before being \u201cset healthy\u201d this morning by operators at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>The satellite was the final one to be launched in a series known as the Block 2F, built by Boeing, with additional signals, improved accuracy, better anti-jamming and longer design lives.<\/p>\n<p>The 12 deployments began in 2010 and all were successfully launched and put into service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe addition of the final GPS 2F satellite to the constellation is a colossal triumph, as GPS 2F capabilities are crucial to modernizing the GPS constellation. On-going modernization efforts provide the constellation with improved timing, additional civil signals and increased protection,\u201d said Col. Steve Whitney, Space and Missile Systems Center\u2019s director of the GPS Directorate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13269\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13269\" style=\"width: 940px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spaceflightnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/gps2f12.jpg\" alt=\"An artist's concept of GPS 2F-12. Gen. David Buck, 14th Air Force commander and commander of the Joint Functional Component Command for Space, U.S. Strategic Command.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe capabilities enabled by the position, navigation and timing signals of the GPS constellation are ingrained into the fabric of our daily lives.
