{"id":15675,"date":"2016-03-09T00:56:30","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T16:56:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/photos-ariane-5-in-position-for-blastoff-from-kourou\/"},"modified":"2016-03-09T00:56:30","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T16:56:30","slug":"photos-ariane-5-in-position-for-blastoff-from-kourou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/photos-ariane-5-in-position-for-blastoff-from-kourou\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos: Ariane 5 in position for blastoff from Kourou"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Ariane 5 rocket is poised for a rare overnight launch early Wednesday, and these photos show the 180-foot-tall (55-meter) launcher on the eve of liftoff with a multi-mission Eutelsat communications satellite.<\/p>\n<p>The launch at 0520 GMT (12:20 a.m. EST) will mark the 85th flight of an Ariane 5 rocket, and the heavy-lifter\u2019s second mission of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The Eutelsat 65 West A communications satellite, with a launch mass of more than 6.5 metric tons (14,471 pounds), will broadcast in C-band, Ku-band and Ka-band, serving Latin America with broadband connectivity and direct-to-home television, and bridging the Americas and Europe to relay video content.<\/p>\n<p>The spacecraft will expand television broadcast capacity over Brazil in time for the Rio Olympics in August.<\/p>\n<p>It is owned by Paris-based Eutelsat and was manufactured by Space Systems\/Loral in Palo Alto, California.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13226\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13226\" style=\"width: 621px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13226\" src=\"http:\/\/spaceflightnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Lanceur-en-ZL_036.jpg\" alt=\"Photo credit: ESA\/CNES\/Arianespace \u2013 Photo Optique Video du CSG \u2013 P.
