{"id":16345,"date":"2015-05-05T18:44:55","date_gmt":"2015-05-05T10:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/photos-dragon-prototype-poised-for-abort-test\/"},"modified":"2015-05-05T18:44:55","modified_gmt":"2015-05-05T10:44:55","slug":"photos-dragon-prototype-poised-for-abort-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/photos-dragon-prototype-poised-for-abort-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos: Dragon prototype poised for abort test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SpaceX\u2019s new Dragon crew ferry craft is in position for a key test Wednesday of the capsule\u2019s safety system designed to whisk astronauts away from a dangerous rocket mishap during launch.<\/p>\n<p>Standing roughly 20 feet tall with a takeoff weight of approximately 10.5 tons, the Dragon capsule is a prototype of the spaceship SpaceX is developing to take U.S. astronauts to the International Space Station by the end of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Eight SuperDraco rocket thrusters attached around the circumference of the capsule will ignite for less than six seconds, powering the craft nearly a mile into the sky to verify the ship\u2019s ability to escape from an explosive booster failure on the pad.<\/p>\n<p>The entire flight will last less than two minutes and is scheduled for 7 a.m. EDT (1100 GMT) Wednesday.
