(Aerojet Rocketdyne Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Florida-based L3Harris today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne, two days after the Federal Trade Commission gave its OK for the deal.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition, which was valued at $4.7 billion when the agreement was announced last December, adds Aerojet\u2019s expertise in rocket propulsion systems to L3Harris\u2019 portfolio of space and defense technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to welcome more than 5,000 employees to the L3Harris team today,\u201d L3Harris\u2019 chair and CEO, Christopher Kubasik, said in a news release. \u201cWith national security at the forefront, we\u2019re combining our resources and expertise with Aerojet Rocketdyne\u2019s propulsion and energetics capabilities to ensure that the Department of Defense and civil space customers can address critical mission needs globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies Company\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W666fX76aSg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Going forward, Aerojet Rocketdyne will be known as \u201cAerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies company.\u201d The upward-swooping rocket in Aerojet\u2019s logo has been replaced by L3Harris\u2019 buckyball logo, and Aerojet\u2019s main internet domains \u2014 Aerojet.com and Rocket.com \u2014 now redirect to L3Harris.com.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition isn\u2019t expected to affect operations at Aerojet\u2019s facility in Redmond, Wash., where about 470 employees work on a wide range of small thruster systems. The Redmond operation traces its lineage back to Rocket Research Corp., which was founded in Seattle by former Boeing engineers in 1959. Scores of spacecraft, including Mars rovers and NASA\u2019s Orion moonship, have used thrusters built in Redmond.<\/p>\n<p>Before the L3Harris deal, Lockheed Martin mounted an attempt to acquire Aerojet Rocketdyne \u2014 but terminated the agreement early last year when the FTC sought to block the acquisition due to antitrust concerns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Dawson, an engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne\u2019s facility in Redmond, Wash., processes a set of MR-80 engines for NASA\u2019s Perseverance rover mission in advance of its 2020 launch.
