(GSA Illustration)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Seattle-based RBC Signals says it\u2019s raised $1.5 million from investors around the world, providing a boost for&nbsp;its plans to knit together a network of ground stations for receiving satellite data.<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco-based Bee Partners said it was a lead investor in the round, and other investors included Abstract Ventures,&nbsp;Blacktop Capital, Comet Labs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-321051\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.geekwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rbc.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.geekwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rbc.png 200w, https:\/\/cdn.geekwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rbc-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cdn.geekwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rbc-100x100.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\"><\/p>\n<p>RBC Signals, led by co-founder and CEO Christopher Richins, has agreements with ground stations in more than 20&nbsp;locations around the globe to use spare capacity on their antennas. The company&nbsp;takes advantage of that capacity to deliver data to satellite operators, and the ground station operators share in the resulting revenue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are the first and only provider in our sector using a shared-economy model to leverage existing ground station infrastructure to deliver and process real-time data,\u201d Richins said today in a statement about the seed round. \u201cOur competitive pricing is critical for commercial satellite operators to make their own business plans financially feasible as the global space sector continues to commercialize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s business model anticipates a rising demand for bandwidth as more and more&nbsp;satellites come online.&nbsp;The seed funding will go toward expanding coverage and the network\u2019s data-processing capability.<\/p>\n<p>Richins\u2019 resume includes stints at Sea Launch, Bain &amp; Company, Arkyd Astronautics (the precursor to Redmond-based Planetary Resources), Space Angels Network, Expedia and Applause.<\/p>\n<p>RBC Signals\u2019 co-founder and chief strategy officer, Olga Gershenzon, is based in Russia.
