{"id":19748,"date":"2012-04-18T18:23:19","date_gmt":"2012-04-18T10:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/space-robot-venture-includes-googles-page-and-schmidt-aims-to-expand-earths-resources\/"},"modified":"2012-04-18T18:23:19","modified_gmt":"2012-04-18T10:23:19","slug":"space-robot-venture-includes-googles-page-and-schmidt-aims-to-expand-earths-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/space-robot-venture-includes-googles-page-and-schmidt-aims-to-expand-earths-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Space robot venture includes Google\u2019s Page and Schmidt, aims to expand Earth\u2019s resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-36388\" title=\"planetaryresources\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/planetaryresources.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"51\">This new space robot venture just keeps getting more interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today we told you about a new Seattle-area startup, led by big names from NASA and the commercial space business, that next Tuesday will unveil its plans&nbsp;\u201cto revolutionize space exploration activities and ultimately create a better standard of living on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, a media invite for the unveiling says that the company\u2019s investors and advisers also include Google\u2019s Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, filmmaker James Cameron, early Google investor&nbsp;Ram Shriram, and investor Ross Perot Jr.<\/p>\n<p>The invitation also sheds more light on the company\u2019s plans, saying it \u201cwill overlay two critical sectors \u2013 space exploration and natural resources \u2013 to add trillions of dollars to the global GDP.\u201d It adds, \u201cThis innovative start-up will create a new industry and a new definition of \u2018natural resources\u2019.\u201d&nbsp;The mission of the venture, the invite says, is \u201cto&nbsp;help ensure humanity\u2019s prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The invite was sent out with the logo of \u201cPlanetary Resources,\u201d which appears to be the official name of the new startup. The people involved \u2014 including former NASA engineer and Mars Rover vet Chris Lewicki and the X Prize Foundation\u2019s&nbsp;Peter Diamandis \u2014 have been working under the name Arkyd Astronautics.<\/p>\n<p>Former Microsoft engineer (and space tourist) Charles Simonyi is also involved, as is&nbsp;Eric Anderson, the co-founder of space tourism startup Space Adventures.<\/p>\n<p>Planetary Resource\u2019s Twitter page says it\u2019s a \u201cnew&nbsp;space venture with mission to expand Earth\u2019s resource base &amp; help ensure humanity\u2019s prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reading between the lines, the logical assumption would be that they\u2019re planning to send robots into space to gather resources we need here on Earth.
