China\u2019s commercial space company LandSpace has successfully conducted a long-duration full-system test of its Lanyan liquid oxygen\u2013methane rocket engine, according to a report by China Media Group.<\/p>\n
The 220-tonne-class engine uses a full-flow staged-combustion cycle, a highly efficient but technically complex engine design, and is intended to support next-generation heavy-lift launch vehicles for China\u2019s expanding space program.<\/p>\n
The Lanyan engine employs two preburners, with a fuel-rich preburner driving the fuel pump and an oxygen-rich preburner powering the oxidizer pump. The resulting gas streams are then fed into the main combustion chamber, where they burn completely, allowing more precise control of propellant flow and improving overall efficiency.<\/p>\n
Compared with conventional rocket engine designs, the full-flow staged-combustion configuration offers higher efficiency, more compact architecture and longer service life, although it also presents significant engineering and manufacturing challenges.<\/p>\n
The engine completed its first full-system test in May 2025 and has since undergone more than 100 ignition tests, the report said. The latest long-duration test indicates further progress toward operational readiness.<\/p>\n
LandSpace said the engine is intended to power future large and heavy-lift launch vehicles, supporting missions including deep-space exploration, crewed lunar operations and expanded orbital launch capacity.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
