EchoStar has amended its agreement with SpaceX to sell its entire portfolio of unpaired AWS-3 spectrum licenses for approximately $2.6 billion in SpaceX stock, valued as of September 2025. The nationwide licenses, part of 3GPP Band 70n, include uplink frequencies between 1695 and 1710 MHz. The sale builds on a previous deal announced in September between the two companies.<\/p>\n
The AWS-3 licenses, combined with EchoStar\u2019s existing AWS-4 and H-block spectrum, will support the expansion of SpaceX\u2019s Starlink Direct to Cell satellite constellation. The combined spectrum is expected to power next-generation direct-to-device communications, enabling text, voice, and broadband services for both consumer and enterprise users globally, including Boost Mobile subscribers.<\/p>\n
Hamid Akhavan, CEO of EchoStar Capital, said the sale marks a key milestone for both companies. \u201cThis transaction with SpaceX, in addition to our previously announced spectrum transactions and commercial agreements, will strengthen EchoStar\u2019s ability to develop new business opportunities and growth in value for our shareholders,\u201d Akhavan said.<\/p>\n
EchoStar noted that the deal will not affect its existing operations \u2014 including DISH TV, Sling TV, Boost Mobile, and Hughes \u2014 and is aimed at enhancing long-term strategic flexibility.
