Singapore will launch a national space agency on April 1 as it seeks to \u201cfully harness the value and opportunities of the growing global space economy,\u201d the country\u2019s trade ministry said on Monday.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Trade and Industry said it will oversee the new National Space Agency of Singapore, which will be responsible for developing and operating the city-state\u2019s space capabilities, as well as shaping legislation and regulations to support innovation and commercial activity in the sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cSingapore\u2019s strengths in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, micro-electronics, precision engineering and artificial intelligence position us well to capture new opportunities in the space technology sector,\u201d the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made at Singapore\u2019s inaugural space summit by Tan See Leng, a minister overseeing energy and technology portfolios at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.<\/p>\n
Global investment in space technology is expected to continue rising after reaching record levels in 2025, according to data from Seraphim Space, underscoring intensifying competition among countries to build domestic space ecosystems.<\/p>\n
Singapore currently hosts about 70 space-related companies employing roughly 2,000 professionals across activities ranging from satellite manufacturing and electronics to data analytics and downstream services, the ministry said.
