Calian Group has agreed to acquire Canadian satellite communications provider Galaxy Broadband Communications in a transaction valued at up to C$52 million (US$36.6 million), expanding its communications and connectivity business.<\/p>\n
The acquisition includes an upfront payment of C$24 million (US$16.9 million), with up to C$27.5 million (US$19.3 million) in additional earnout payments tied to performance over the next three years.<\/p>\n
Galaxy Broadband provides satellite communications and remote connectivity services to government, defence, critical infrastructure and remote community customers across Canada.<\/p>\n
The company delivers multi-orbit connectivity, low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite services and private wireless solutions, supporting organisations operating in remote regions, including Northern Canada.<\/p>\n
Galaxy was acquired by private equity firm Crown Capital Partners in 2020.<\/p>\n
Calian said the acquisition will enhance its ability to deliver integrated communications solutions by combining Galaxy\u2019s expertise with its existing capabilities in communications infrastructure, cybersecurity, defence technologies and remote service delivery.<\/p>\n
Galaxy is also a distribution partner of Eutelsat OneWeb and has deployed OneWeb connectivity services at locations across Canada.<\/p>\n
The combined business is expected to strengthen Calian\u2019s presence in government, defence and critical infrastructure markets where secure communications remain a key requirement.<\/p>\n
Galaxy Broadband founder and Chief Executive Officer Rick Hodgkinson said the acquisition aligns the two companies around a common customer focus.<\/p>\n
