Axiom Space said on Thursday it had raised $350 million in new financing to support construction of a commercial space station intended to succeed the International Space Station (ISS) and to advance development of next-generation spacesuits for future U.S. lunar missions.<\/p>\n
The funding round was co-led by Type One Ventures and the Qatar Investment Authority, with additional participation from investors including 1789 Capital, 4iG, LuminArx Capital Management and others. Company founder and Executive Chairman Kam Ghaffarian also invested, while J.P. Morgan served as sole placement agent.<\/p>\n
The financing package includes both equity and debt and reflects continued investor interest in companies seeking to expand commercial activity in low Earth orbit as governments prepare for the eventual retirement of the ISS.<\/p>\n

Axiom Space is developing Axiom Station, a privately operated orbital outpost designed to host astronauts, research, manufacturing and other commercial activities. The company also holds a NASA contract to produce the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), a spacesuit intended for use on the Artemis program\u2019s planned return of U.S. astronauts to the Moon.<\/p>\n
Investors said the company\u2019s combination of government partnerships and commercial ambitions positions it prominently in the emerging market for in-orbit infrastructure. \u201cAxiom Space isn\u2019t just building hardware, it\u2019s building the backbone of humanity\u2019s next era in orbit,\u201d said Tarek Waked, founding general partner at Type One Ventures.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the financing will support continued development of the Axiom Station modules as well as production of the AxEMU spacesuits, which are expected to be used during lunar surface operations later this decade.<\/p>\n
