The move is aimed at strengthening Sodern’s ability to serve U.S. customers and grow its presence in what it describes as a key and expanding market, executives told Via Satellite.

“We’re already very close to our customers, but having boots on the ground gives us the ability to better understand our customers, their needs, and evolution in the marketplace,” Louradour said. “We currently have 40-plus customers in the U.S. It is a growing market and a very important market for Sodern.”

Under the expansion, Sodern will establish full production and manufacturing in the United States for its Auriga star tracker, while building advanced testing facilities for its higher-performance Hydra star tracker line. Construction in Colorado is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the office opening targeted for mid-summer and production starting later this year.

Sodern Chief Executive Vincent Dedieu said the company had been considering a U.S. expansion for several years, driven primarily by customer demand rather than trade policy. “The decision to open Sodern America was driven by our discussions with customers and their conviction that there is a market that will be more accessible when we are in the U.S. instead of serving the U.S. market from France,” Dedieu said, adding that tariff uncertainty had complicated planning but was not the trigger for the move.

Louradour said Colorado was chosen for its role as a major U.S. space hub and its access to customers on both the east and west coasts. She said Sodern would replicate its French production standards in the U.S. facility, using the same equipment and materials and providing extensive training to ensure quality and reliability. “It will have the same production equipment, the same materials they use in France,” she said, adding that the company’s goal remains “100% mission success.”

Sodern’s star trackers are used on satellites across multiple orbits and mission types, serving customers that include Lockheed Martin, AST SpaceMobile and Varda Space Industries, among others. The company is also expanding into space cameras used for rendezvous and proximity operations and space situational awareness.

Louradour said Sodern America will begin hiring in the U.S., initially focusing on business development, production quality and supply chain roles, as the company scales its operations in United States.

Sodern is expanding into the United States with plans to establish manufacturing and testing operations for its satellite navigation equipment in Colorado, marking the company’s first subsidiary outside France.
