The work will be conducted in support of the Space Force’s Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI) program.

Talos, short for Thinking Agent for Logical Operations and Strategy, was unveiled by Slingshot in July last year. The system is designed to simulate realistic satellite behavior in orbit, including maneuvers associated with space conflict, enabling trainees to face adaptive, non-scripted threats rather than fixed scenarios.

The AI agent was recently tested by the Space Force’s Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM) as part of efforts to deepen AI integration into future exercises. According to Slingshot, the contract builds on earlier investments by the Space Force and SpaceWERX in 2022 under a $25 million STRATFI award.

“This award marks a turning point in how the Space Force prepares for conflict in orbit,” said Tim Solms, chief executive of Slingshot Aerospace. “Talos allows the Space Force Guardians the ability to train against adaptive, AI-driven threats that behave like real adversaries — not pre-programmed scenarios.”

Under the agreement, Slingshot will work to connect existing Space Force training systems with AI-native technology that can dynamically represent evolving threat environments, reflecting the increasing complexity of orbital operations and competition in space.

The award highlights growing U.S. military interest in artificial intelligence for training and operational readiness as space becomes a more contested domain, with satellites playing a critical role in communications, navigation, intelligence and missile warning.

The U.S. Space Force has awarded a $27 million contract to Slingshot Aerospace to integrate the company’s Talos artificial intelligence agent into Space Force training and simulation programs, the company said.
