Finnish space technology company ICEYE has raised \u20ac450 million in a Series F funding round, valuing the company at more than \u20ac10 billion and marking one of the largest private financings in Europe\u2019s defence and space sectors.<\/p>\n
The funding round was led by General Atlantic and includes participation from a group of new and existing investors, including Solidium, Tesi, Varma, Ilmarinen, Lifeline Ventures, Nokia, Qatar Investment Authority and TCV.<\/p>\n
Sources familiar with the transaction indicated that the overall deal, including secondary share sales, is expected to exceed \u20ac1 billion. The financing remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n
The transaction is expected to significantly increase the value of holdings owned by Seraphim Space Investment Trust, which has identified ICEYE as one of its largest portfolio assets.<\/p>\n
ICEYE\u2019s latest valuation represents a dramatic increase from the approximately $2.4 billion valuation reported in December 2025.<\/p>\n
The sharp rise reflects growing demand from governments seeking sovereign intelligence capabilities amid heightened geopolitical tensions and increased defence spending.<\/p>\n
Founded in Finland, ICEYE operates the world\u2019s largest constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, with more than 70 satellites currently in orbit. Unlike conventional optical satellites, SAR technology can capture imagery through cloud cover, smoke and darkness, enabling persistent monitoring regardless of weather conditions or time of day.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s business model increasingly centers on providing sovereign space-based intelligence systems to national governments.<\/p>\n
To date, ICEYE has delivered sovereign satellite intelligence capabilities to seven countries, allowing defence agencies to operate dedicated radar surveillance networks under national control.<\/p>\n
One of the company\u2019s most significant projects involved Poland, where ICEYE delivered a sovereign radar satellite system valued at approximately \u20ac200 million. The system reportedly became operational within a year and now supports independent military intelligence activities.<\/p>\n
Governments are increasingly deploying SAR-based intelligence systems for applications including border security, maritime surveillance, disaster monitoring and battlefield awareness.<\/p>\n
ICEYE\u2019s financial performance has strengthened alongside rising defence demand.<\/p>\n
The company reported revenue exceeding \u20ac250 million in 2025, while EBITDA surpassed \u20ac100 million. Its order backlog has grown beyond \u20ac1.5 billion, reflecting increasing demand from customers across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.<\/p>\n
Management expects revenue growth to accelerate further, projecting annual revenue above \u20ac500 million as additional systems are deployed and contracts move into execution phases.<\/p>\n
The funding round also introduces strategic investors whose expertise extends beyond traditional defence markets.<\/p>\n
Nokia\u2019s participation highlights increasing convergence between satellite intelligence and communications infrastructure. Real-time transmission of intelligence data has become increasingly important as governments seek faster decision-making capabilities and integrated command-and-control systems.<\/p>\n
According to Nokia Chief Executive Justin Hotard, modern defence increasingly depends on combining situational awareness with resilient communications infrastructure, a trend that aligns with broader European efforts to strengthen technological sovereignty.<\/p>\n
General Atlantic cited ICEYE\u2019s vertically integrated satellite manufacturing model and rapid deployment capabilities as key factors supporting its investment.<\/p>\n
ICEYE currently employs more than 1,000 people and has launched 72 satellites since its founding.<\/p>\n
The company plans to significantly expand manufacturing capacity, targeting production of up to 100 satellites annually by 2028.<\/p>\n
Its next-generation satellite platforms increasingly rely on software-defined architectures, enabling new capabilities to be deployed through software upgrades rather than requiring hardware replacement.<\/p>\n
ICEYE operates in a competitive market that includes companies such as Capella Space, Umbra and Synspective. However, the Finnish company remains the largest SAR operator globally by constellation size and government contract volume.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Series F financing, ICEYE has secured a \u20ac300 million revolving credit facility and received a \u20ac28.3 million research and development grant from Business Finland.<\/p>\n
