The United States Space Force has awarded a combined $437.7 million contract to Viasat and Intelsat for the procurement of satellites under the Protected Tactical Satellite Communications-Global (PTS-G) program, according to a government contract notice released on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Space Force said it obligated $150 million in fiscal year 2026 research, development, test and evaluation funding at the time of the award. The work is expected to continue through March 19, 2029.<\/p>\n
PTS-G is intended to provide protected satellite communications capabilities for military operations while serving as an interim solution ahead of more advanced systems planned under the future Protected Tactical Satellite Communications-Resilient (PTS-Resilient) architecture.<\/p>\n
In July, the Space Force awarded a combined $37.3 million in earlier contracts to Viasat, Intelsat General Communications, Northrop Grumman, Astranis and Boeing for the design and demonstration phase of PTS-G technologies.<\/p>\n
The latest awards follow a separate contract announced last week in which Northrop Grumman received $398 million for the Enhanced Protected Tactical Satellite-Prototype (EPTS-P) program. The prototype is expected to support development of future resilient protected communications capabilities, including PTS-Resilient.<\/p>\n
