SpaceX successfully launched 29 Starlink satellites from Florida on Sunday, overcoming weather concerns linked to a cold front moving across the peninsula.<\/p>\n
Forecasters with the 45th Weather Squadron, based at Cape Canaveral, had estimated a 60% chance of acceptable launch conditions at the opening of the window. The main risks included potential violations of launch weather rules related to cumulus cloud development, thick cloud cover and liftoff winds.<\/p>\n
At launch time, conditions included temperatures around 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius), northerly winds of 12 to 28 mph (19 to 45 km\/h), scattered clouds at about 1,500 feet (450 metres) and broken cloud layers near 20,000 feet (6,000 metres), according to the forecast.<\/p>\n
The mission, designated Starlink 6-100, marked the 99th Group 6 launch and the 347th dedicated mission for Starlink, SpaceX\u2019s satellite broadband constellation.<\/p>\n
Following liftoff, the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, B1080, landed on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas about eight minutes and 20 seconds after launch. It was the 24th flight for the booster, which first entered service in May 2023 on the Axiom-2 commercial mission to the International Space Station.<\/p>\n
The 29 Starlink V2 Mini satellites were deployed just over an hour into the mission into an orbit roughly 164 by 157 miles (264 by 253 km), inclined at 43 degrees to the equator, expanding SpaceX\u2019s rapidly growing low-Earth orbit network.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
