Astranis has introduced a new mobile satellite network product designed to provide rapid, resilient connectivity for defense operations and disaster response. The system, called Vanguard, was announced on Wednesday and integrates satellite and terrestrial communications to create a deployable, self-forming network.<\/p>\n
Developed in partnership with terminal manufacturers Kymeta and Satcube, along with networking provider Persistent Systems, Vanguard aims to deliver flexible command-and-control and situational awareness capabilities for users operating beyond line of sight. Astranis said the system has been successfully demonstrated using one of its geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites currently in service over the United States.<\/p>\n
During the demonstration, Astranis deployed an air-gapped tactical network utilizing Persistent Systems\u2019 Wave Relay MANET routing algorithm, MPU5 broadband radios, and ruggedized display and control devices. Data was transmitted live through both Kymeta and Satcube terminals via the Astranis satellite, showcasing the system\u2019s ability to support high-bandwidth communications for voice, video, and broadband data.<\/p>\n
Astranis said Vanguard is designed to be rapidly deployed in field conditions, enabling users to establish secure connectivity within minutes. Beyond defense applications, the company said the technology could support public safety and disaster response agencies, allowing them to restore communications in areas where terrestrial networks are down.<\/p>\n
