Musk on Vulcan\u2019s timeline<\/h2>\n

In a tweet dug up by Eric Berger, back in 2018 Musk talked about ULA pricing and the eventual development of its competitor\u2019s Vulcan rocket. \u201cI will seriously eat my hat with a side of mustard if that rocket flies a national security spacecraft before 2023,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n

Discussion of a new rocket began as soon as ULA was formed in 2006 from the merger of Boeing\u2018s and Lockheed Martin\u2018s launch teams. However, Vulcan wasn\u2019t formally announced until 2014 in light of political attacks for Atlas V\u2019s reliance on the Russian made RD-180 engine.<\/p>\n
