Researchers at Harvard\u2019s Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics made waves in the mainstream media after publishing a paper claiming that \u2018Oumuamua may have had an \u201cartificial origin\u201d \u2014 Presenting speculation that the object could have been sent \u201cintentionally to Earth vicinity by an alien civilization.\u201d<\/p>\n

This theory is based on the object\u2019s \u201cexcess acceleration,\u201d or its unexpected boost in speed separate from the Sun\u2019s gravitational influence. This still stumps researchers today.<\/p>\n

We haven\u2019t learned much about the interstellar object since its discovery in 2017. One thing is for certain, though; it\u2019s traveling fast, blistering fast. <\/p>\n
