Central to that forward-looking inquiry will be&nbsp;m:N \u00ad\u2013 the mode NASA is preparing to enable small groups of people (m) to manage larger fleets of autonomous craft (N).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read<\/strong>:&nbsp;Zipline unveils onboard acoustic detect and avoid drone solution&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The partnership will entail direct exchanges between the agency and Zipline, with the company also joining the&nbsp;n:M working group&nbsp;of experts from business, government agencies, and academics assisting&nbsp;NASA&nbsp;on the project.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<script type=\"text\/plain\" data-consent-needed=\"marketing\">\n\t\t\twindow.adSlotsConfig = window.adSlotsConfig || [];<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tadSlotsConfig.push( {\n\t\t\t\tslotID: '\/1049447\/Outbrain',\n\t\t\t\tslotName: 'div-gpt-ad-outbrain-ad-84574',\n\t\t\t\tsizes: [300, 250],\n\t\t\t\tslotPosition: 'mid_article'\n\t\t\t} );\n\t\t<\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese collaborations are quite important,\u201d said Kelley Hashemi, technical lead for autonomous systems at NASA\u2019s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley. \u201cIt\u2019s critical for NASA to gather the community\u2019s input in order to achieve meaningful progress towards this future vision of US aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zipline\u2019s drone delivery&nbsp;activity of&nbsp;medical supplies&nbsp;and retail goods in the US, Africa,&nbsp;Japan, and beyond have been built using de facto n:M operation, and is expected to offer valuable insight to NASA\u2019s quest to determine how fleets of autonomous UAVs and&nbsp;AAM aircraft&nbsp;can be effectively managed in future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In exchange for aiding the agency with its experience and insight from its instant logistics work, Zipline will be able to dig into NASA\u2019s tools and research as it plans expansion of its aerial&nbsp;operations in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a member of NASA\u2019s n:M working group, meanwhile,&nbsp;Zipline will also contribute&nbsp;to the collective effort to overcome technical, regulatory, safety assurance, and community acceptance challenges that can limit the scaling of existing aerial services like drone deliveries, and risk doing the same to future activities like AAM air taxis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPublic-private cooperation is essential to expanding drone delivery and unlocking its benefits for more people,\u201d said Conor French, general counsel of Zipline. \u201cThis partnership is an important step in that direction. We\u2019re excited to work with NASA to accelerate growth in drone delivery, both in the U.S. and abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read<\/strong>:&nbsp;Zipline details the rollout of its drone delivery operation in Japan&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zipline operates medical drone deliveries in Rwanda,&nbsp;Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and other African nations, and similar services in&nbsp;North Carolina, Washington state, and&nbsp;Japan. It also provides aerial&nbsp;transport of Walmart orders&nbsp;to clients in Arkansas.
