The climate action plan outlines NASA\u2019s commitments to studying climate change, and how the agency aims to protect its assets against changing climate.&nbsp;NASA Administrator Bill Nelson reiterated the space agency\u2019s historic responsibility to not only exploring the cosmos, but also conducting climate research on our planet. \u201cNASA is committed to safeguarding our mission in the decades to come, and through the data we provide to the world, we\u2019ll help other agencies make sure they can do the same,\u201d said Nelson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These various climate action plans come as a result of an executive order signed by President Biden during his first week in office.&nbsp;Biden\u2019s executive order directs federal agencies to describe climate-related vulnerabilities, actions the agencies can take to protect themselves against climate change, and reduce energy and water waste in government buildings, along with other climate-related objectives.&nbsp;According to a White House press statement published on Thursday, \u201dthe plans reflect President Biden\u2019s whole-of-government approach to confronting the climate crisis as agencies integrate climate-readiness across their missions and programs and strengthen the resilience of federal assets from the accelerating impacts of climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NASA\u2019s climate action plan identifies five strategic priorities:<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<script type=\"text\/plain\">\n\t\t\twindow.adSlotsConfig = window.adSlotsConfig || [];<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tadSlotsConfig.push( {\n\t\t\t\tslotID: '\/1049447\/Outbrain',\n\t\t\t\tslotName: 'div-gpt-ad-outbrain-ad-22104',\n\t\t\t\tsizes: [300, 250],\n\t\t\t\tslotPosition: 'mid_article'\n\t\t\t} );\n\t\t<\/script><\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensuring access to space<\/li>\n<li>Integrating climate adaptation into NASA\u2019s master plans&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Integrating climate change into risk analysis and resilience planning&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Updating climate modeling to better understand threats and vulnerabilities&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Advancing aeronautics research to reduce contributors to climate change&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(From a NASA <\/em><em>press release<\/em><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next steps for the climate action plan include reviews by the National Climate Task Force, White House Council on Environmental Quality\u2019s (CEQ) Federal Chief Sustainability Officer, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).&nbsp;These groups will determine that NASA\u2019s climate action plan meets the directives outlined in the President\u2019s executive order, and how to implement the plan into real-world operations.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"enjoy-reading-space-explored\">Enjoy reading Space Explored?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Help others find us by following on <strong>Apple News<\/strong> and <strong>Google News<\/strong>.
