This meeting came ahead of Zelensky\u2019s meeting with President Biden on Wednesday. In an official statement published on NASA\u2019s media website, Nelson said of the meeting: \u201cWe discussed our renewed commitment to partnership in space, our shared interest in exploration and discovery, and the importance of international cooperation for achieving mutual ambitions in space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, Ukraine became the 9th country to sign onto NASA\u2019s Artemis accords.&nbsp; The Accords outline NASA\u2019s plan to reach the Moon by 2024, while maintaining peaceful relations with international partners. The accords didn\u2019t pass without controversy, however. Notably absent from the signees, Russia criticized the agreement, citing it as a way for the US to codify its dominance in space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukraine and Russia have also had an extreme conflict with one another in recent years.&nbsp; A study conducted by the IMF concluded that by 2016, Ukraine\u2019s space sector had lost up to 80% of its total revenue as a result of the conflict in Crimea. Prior to the occupation in 2014, Ukraine\u2019s space program operated in conjunction with Roscosmos, Russia\u2019s space program.
