The mission, named \u201cThe Owl\u2019s Night Begins,\u201d will mark Rocket Lab\u2019s 17th overall mission.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-6953\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal of The Owl\u2019s Night Begins mission is to carry StriX-\u03b1, a Japanese Earth-imaging satellite, into space. The satellite is from a company by the name of Synspective, and it will be used for collecting data of metropolitan areas all across Asia on a daily basis. That data will then be used for urban development planning, construction monitoring, and disaster response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mission is called The Owl\u2019s Night Begins due to the satellite\u2019s name, StriX, which is a genus of owls. It is also a reference to the synthetic aperture radar that the StriX satellite utilizes to capture millimeter-level changes of the Earth\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image wp-block-image--obfuscated\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spaceexplored.com\/wp-content\/themes\/ninetofive\/dist\/images\/default-spaceexplored-related-guide.png\" alt=\"Site default logo image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those of you who watched Rocket Lab\u2019s previous Electron launch on November 19, you will remember that the company recovered the first stage. However, Rocket Lab has already stated in a tweet that a recovery attempt will not be made for The Owl\u2019s Night Begins mission.
