Readers of this website will already know there is no mystery;  the UFO lights at Maier Festival Park were just drones practicing for a Christmas Pageant light show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there\u2019s a long history of alarming lights in the sky and earthlings assuming it just <strong>can\u2019t<\/strong> be good.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-40403\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actor\/ Director Orson Welles frightened many listeners in 1938 with his Halloween prank radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. It\u2019s controversial just how many people actually feared Martian invasion. But a lot of listeners felt silly once the hoax was revealed, and CBS fought at least one lawsuit. For years after that, the skies remained more or less clear of extraterrestrial menace.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image wp-block-image--obfuscated\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dronedj.com\/wp-content\/themes\/ninetofive\/dist\/images\/default-dronedj-related-guide.png\" alt=\"Site default logo image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until 1947. (Really? Who\u2019s fooled by swamp gas?) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, there was always a tiny minority of reports that defied easy explanation.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UFO? It\u2019s just a drone, dude<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But now the skeptic has a likely and dismissive UFO explanation at hand: It\u2019s just a drone ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cA significant amount of UFOs that we investigate are hobby drones,\u201d Ken Jordan told the Victoria Advocate. &nbsp;He served as the Texas chief of investigations for Mutual UFO Network, an organization that investigates UFO sightings internationally. And this was <em>last year.<\/em> Since then, the factories of Shenzhen and Hong Kong have filled the skies with hundreds of thousands more identifiable flying objects.  We reported on people reporting UFOs to New Jersey police \u2014 only to learn it was a police drone.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image wp-block-image--obfuscated\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dronedj.com\/wp-content\/themes\/ninetofive\/dist\/images\/default-dronedj-related-guide.png\" alt=\"Site default logo image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A high-flying aircraft moving at impossible speeds can be mistaken for a low-flying drone puttering along at 20 k\/h.&nbsp;Acrobatics that seem to defy the laws of physics are now on routine display at drone airshows, no extraterrestrial technology needed.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cKeep watching the skies\u201d<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the New York Times published U.S. navy videos of strange objects flying off the east coast of the U.S., even the pilots had a familiar explanation.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"post-youtube-video-1\" title=\"Navy pilots spot UFO near NE Florida coast\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XXnRGoPBf48?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XXnRGoPBf48?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\"><\/iframe><figcaption>Us Navy vdeo of something\u2026.something.. that defies easy explanation <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s an [expletive] drone, bro,\u201d says one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They don\u2019t especially look like drones, but really what else could they be?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the mothership is parked ominously just behind the Moon and is sending its vile horde of drone-shaped legions toward our unsuspecting planet. Perhaps we should be vigilant like the character Ned Scott in The Thing from Another World: &nbsp;\u201cKeep watching the skies\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Perhaps.
