Today the company is marking a major milestone in its journey to make supersonic flight a commercial service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boom is unveiling the final design of its XB-1 supersonic jet publicly today at 1 p.m. ET. The supersonic flight hardware shown today will be used for the first XB-1 test flights with speeds of Mach 1.3 and higher starting next year.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-5063\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bloomberg describes the 71-foot long experimental jet:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Built out of carbon fiber, the sleek white and black craft resembles a fighter jet more than a passenger transport. [\u2026] If all goes well, Boom will turn its focus in late 2021 to completing the design of its first commercial plane, dubbed Overture.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">XB-1\u2019s successor Overture will more than double in length:<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<script type=\"text\/plain\">\n\t\t\twindow.adSlotsConfig = window.adSlotsConfig || [];<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tadSlotsConfig.push( {\n\t\t\t\tslotID: '\/1049447\/Outbrain',\n\t\t\t\tslotName: 'div-gpt-ad-outbrain-ad-5063',\n\t\t\t\tsizes: [300, 250],\n\t\t\t\tslotPosition: 'mid_article'\n\t\t\t} );\n\t\t<\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The 199-foot Overture will get the blood of businesspeople and travel enthusiasts pumping as they picture a thrombosis-free future. The jet will carry 65 to 88 passengers, with roomy seats on either side of the plane separated by a walkway, meaning everyone gets a window and an aisle seat, ideally at business-class prices.<\/p>\n<p>But the jet\u2019s best feature is speed: It will fly twice as fast as today\u2019s typical commercial planes. The time to go from New York to London will fall from 6\u200a\u00bd hours to 3\u200a\u00bd hours. San Francisco to Tokyo will drop from 10 hours and 15 minutes to 6 hours.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image wp-block-image--obfuscated\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spaceexplored.com\/wp-content\/themes\/ninetofive\/dist\/images\/default-spaceexplored-related-guide.png\" alt=\"Site default logo image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boom is targeting 2029 for the earliest Overture to begin supersonic flights around the planet.
