The call is set to for 5 p.m. EDT on May 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The publicly traded space company used its previous (and first-ever) quarterly conference call as an opportunity to announce its new \u201cOne Small Step\u201d program. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virgin Galactic has been accepting refundable $1000 registration fees for preparing customers for spaceflight since late February so we can expect an update on the program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company last shared that its 2020 goal was to send Richard Branson to space as a demonstration of its service. Hopefully we can learn how coronavirus has affected that goal since COVID-19\u2019s spread across the United States in March.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<script type=\"text\/plain\">\n\t\t\twindow.adSlotsConfig = window.adSlotsConfig || [];<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tadSlotsConfig.push( {\n\t\t\t\tslotID: '\/1049447\/Outbrain',\n\t\t\t\tslotName: 'div-gpt-ad-outbrain-ad-943',\n\t\t\t\tsizes: [300, 250],\n\t\t\t\tslotPosition: 'mid_article'\n\t\t\t} );\n\t\t<\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of the novel coronavirus, Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides published a detailed blog post today that describes how the company is aiding in the fight against the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part of the effort includes a new live educational series on YouTube while schools in the U.S. are closed as an effort to fight the coronavirus spread.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-943\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>With schools shut and kids at home with a thirst to learn, we are launching a new live educational series that will run from the&nbsp;Virgin Galactic YouTube&nbsp;channel, called Spacechat LIVE. Launched in conjunction with our outreach initiative,&nbsp;Galactic Unite, we will be presenting regular live Spacechats on different topics each time, featuring our very own experts across the company. First up is Beth Moses, our Chief Astronaut Instructor who will be talking about what it\u2019s like to travel to space based on her very own spaceflight experience. You can tune into this episode on Thursday, April 2 at 9.30AM PT. We are also developing a special online&nbsp;Virgin Galactic Kids\u2019 Corner&nbsp;with downloadable assets to accompany the Spacechats.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virgin Galactic outlined a number of other ongoing efforts as well. So far, Virgin Galactic says it has donated:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>medical supplies in California and New Mexico, and will be acquiring and donating pulse oximeters and protective suits that it doesn\u2019t stock in-house<\/li>\n<li> several hundred N95 masks and several thousand additional units from partners<\/li>\n<li>Powered Air Purifying Respirators to local hospitals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whitesides says Virgin Galactic has also been collaborating with industry aerospace engineers to help develop low cost breathing hoods for patients with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Virgin Galactic\u2019s spinoff company Virgin Orbit (which is privately-owned by Virgin Group) announced today that it has designed a mass-produceable ventilator that it plans to produce starting next week.
