Which province or city has the strongest satellite manufacturing capabilities in the country?<\/p>\n<p>Nihao Space has compiled the latest satellite factory information across the country in 2026 to help you understand the most comprehensive development trends of China&#8217;s satellite industry.<\/p>\n<p>01<\/p>\n<p>55 satellite factories<\/p>\n<p>According to Hello Space Statistics, as of April 2026:<\/p>\n<p>China has a total of 55 satellite factories with a total designed production capacity of approximately 7,360 satellites\/year.<\/p>\n<p>1. Judging from the construction progress:<\/p>\n<p>Satellite factories have been put into operation: 36, accounting for about 66%;<\/p>\n<p>Satellite factories under construction: 16, accounting for about 29%;<\/p>\n<p>Planned satellite factories: 3, accounting for 5%;<\/p>\n<p>2. From the perspective of single size:<\/p>\n<p>Small production line (annual production capacity<100\u9897\uff09\uff1a21\u4e2a\uff1b<\/p>\n<p>Medium-sized production lines (annual output of 100-200 satellites): 14;<\/p>\n<p>Large production lines (annual output of 200-1,000 satellites): 10;<\/p>\n<p>Very large (annual production of satellites \u2265 1,000): 2;<\/p>\n<p>It can be seen that satellites are becoming industrial products, and China already has the ability to mass produce satellites.<\/p>\n<p>02<\/p>\n<p>Production Capacity Distribution: Who Dominates China\u2019s Satellite Manufacturing?<\/p>\n<p>From the perspective of geographical distribution, China&#8217;s satellite manufacturing capabilities are highly concentrated.<\/p>\n<p>1. Production capacity has been put into operation (4050 pieces\/year) <\/p>\n<p>According to Nihao Space statistics, there are 36 satellite factories that have been put into production nationwide, located in 16 provinces\/municipalities across the country, with a total designed annual production capacity of 4,050 satellites.<\/p>\n<p>The top five provinces\/municipalities are:<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai: annual output 970 pieces<\/p>\n<p>Zhejiang: annual output 870 pieces<\/p>\n<p>Jilin: annual output of 400 pieces<\/p>\n<p>Jiangsu: annual output 350 pieces<\/p>\n<p>Hubei: annual output 240 pieces <\/p>\n<p>In total, it accounts for 70% of the country\u2019s satellite production capacity that has been put into production.<\/p>\n<p>Among them, Shanghai has 10 satellite factories of various types that have been put into production, with an annual production capacity of 970, making it the largest satellite manufacturing center in China.<\/p>\n<p>2. New production capacity in the future (3310 pieces\/year) <\/p>\n<p>There are 19 satellite factories under construction or planning across the country, located in 12 provinces\/municipalities across the country, with a total planned production capacity of 3,310 satellites. National total production capacity (7360 pieces\/year)<\/p>\n<p>Overall, there are 7,360 satellites in production, under construction, and planned nationwide, distributed in 19 provinces\/municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>The top five provinces and cities are:<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai (1280 pieces)<\/p>\n<p>Beijing (1030 pieces)<\/p>\n<p>Hainan (1000 pieces)<\/p>\n<p>Zhejiang (990 pieces)<\/p>\n<p>Jiangsu (450 pieces)<\/p>\n<p>In total, it accounts for 65% of the country&#8217;s total production capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Beijing and the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai regions, as the most developed regions in China&#8217;s science and technology and manufacturing industries, account for 51% of the total production capacity and are dominating China&#8217;s satellite manufacturing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>03<\/p>\n<p>7360-piece production capacity: Excess, or just the beginning?<\/p>\n<p>In sharp contrast to production capacity, China&#8217;s relatively low number of satellite launches.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, China will launch only 377 spacecraft into orbit throughout the year. In other words, the current capacity utilization rate of China&#8217;s satellite factories is less than 10%.<\/p>\n<p>1. Multiple factors have caused the current low capacity utilization rate.<\/p>\n<p>On the surface, current rocket launch capabilities are still a bottleneck. Launch site resources are limited, and rockets are queuing up for launch windows; there is no stable supply of large-capacity, low-cost, and highly reliable rockets, resulting in the current situation of &#8220;star-level arrows.&#8221; But it would be incomplete to attribute the problem solely to the Rockets.<\/p>\n<p>The deeper reason is that the demand has not really formed yet. This is a typical paradox of China\u2019s satellite industry at this stage, and it is also the core reason for the current low capacity utilization rate.<\/p>\n<p>2. In the long run, there is no excess production capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Although the production capacity of 7,360 satellites seems to be a lot, if the time is extended, Nihao Space still firmly believes that these production capacities are not excessive, or even insufficient.<\/p>\n<p>Taking the GW State Grid Constellation and Qianfan Constellation as examples, the two giant constellations have a total of 28,000 satellite launch plans. These satellite factories not only reflect China&#8217;s strong manufacturing capabilities, but also the structural transformation of China&#8217;s aerospace industry in the global aerospace market from low-value-added parts foundry to high-value-added overall design.<\/p>\n<p>From the perspective of industrial logic, these 55 satellite factories can be roughly divided into the following three categories:<\/p>\n<p>1. Market-driven &#8211; the main force in commercial satellite manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>These factories are the main force in the commercial aerospace industry. Region-driven \u2013 local industry platform.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of such factories is more led by local governments or industrial platforms. System guarantee type &#8211; national team and traditional production capacity.<\/p>\n<p>These production capacities are the core capabilities accumulated by China&#8217;s aerospace industry over a long period of time and are the most solid foundation for China&#8217;s aerospace construction. It is the superposition of these three forces that constitutes the complete picture of China&#8217;s satellite manufacturing today. <\/p>\n<p>05<\/p>\n<p>A new trend: asset-light satellite manufacturing<\/p>\n<p> In this systematic review of satellite factories across the country, Nihao Space discovered a new trend: satellite manufacturing companies are moving towards asset-light development. <\/p>\n<p>In the past, local governments used the traditional model of &#8220;investment + return investment&#8221; to promote industrial implementation: companies acquire land, build factories, invest heavily in assets, and build a complete production system by themselves. Now, this model is becoming increasingly difficult to establish: on the one hand, the investment in building factories is huge, on the other hand, orders and demand are highly uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, a new division of labor model began to emerge: local state-owned assets focused on assets and enterprises focused on operations. In other words, heavy-asset projects such as factories, workshops, and infrastructure are constructed by local industrial investment platforms; satellite companies settle in through leasing or cooperation and focus on R&#038;D, assembly, and production organization.<\/p>\n<p>Typical cases have been implemented in many cities:<\/p>\n<p>Taking Jinan Satellite Manufacturing Base as an example, the assets belong to Jinan Satellite Industry Development Group Co., Ltd., which is controlled by Jinan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. It has already introduced investments in Aerospace Yuxing, Yuncheng Satellite, and Zero-Gravity Space, forming a gradual industrial agglomeration.<\/p>\n<p>This model essentially reconstructs the industrial division of labor, and is actually an important change in the development logic of China&#8217;s commercial aerospace industry.
