EchoStar said the restructuring has the support of creditors representing more than 88% of the outstanding secured and unsecured notes issued by the affected subsidiaries.

Restructuring Driven by Delayed Spectrum Sale

According to EchoStar, the filing follows delays in completing its proposed US$20.25 billion wireless spectrum transaction with AT&T, which postponed expected proceeds needed to address near-term debt maturities.

The restructuring is intended to manage approximately US$2 billion of 7.75% senior secured notes that matured on July 1, 2026, while the company awaits regulatory approval and closing of the spectrum sale.

Consumer Businesses Continue Operating

EchoStar emphasized that the Chapter 11 proceedings apply only to DISH DBS Corporation and certain wireless subsidiaries.

The company said its other operating businesses—including DISH TV, Sling TV, Hughes Satellite Systems, Boost Mobile, and Gen Mobile—are not part of the bankruptcy filing and will continue normal operations.

EchoStar has also requested court approval to continue paying suppliers, equipment vendors, programming partners, and other trade creditors without interruption throughout the restructuring process.

Wireless Wind-Down Continues

The filing also supports the ongoing wind-down of the legacy DISH Wireless infrastructure following earlier asset sales.

EchoStar said a separate US$2.4 billion escrow trust established under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements will remain dedicated to funding validated claims related to the dismantling of the former DISH Wireless 5G network. The escrow arrangement is separate from the Chapter 11 proceedings.

Targeting a Swift Exit

Under the proposed restructuring plan, holders of the affected notes are expected to receive repayment after the AT&T spectrum transaction receives final regulatory approval and closes.

EchoStar has appointed White & Case LLP as lead legal counsel and FTI Consulting as financial adviser for the restructuring.

With broad creditor support already secured, the company said it expects the court process to move quickly and anticipates the affected subsidiaries will emerge from Chapter 11 before the end of the third quarter of 2026.

EchoStar Corporation announced that its primary pay-TV broadcasting subsidiary, DISH DBS Corporation, along with certain wireless subsidiaries, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as part of a prepackaged restructuring designed to address approximately US$10 billion in debt.
