Designated VKD-45 (or RS-45), Artemyev and Prokopyev manually launched four small technology satellites, retrieved material science samples from the hull of the Zvezda service module, and installed an experiment called Icarus onto the Russian segment of the space station.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Two cosmonauts suited up inside their Orlan spacesuits for an EVA with the focus on science and maintenance work. It is set to return to Earth on Soyuz. It consists of an antenna and GPS hardware to track the movements of animals that have been tagged with small GPS receivers.<\/p>\n<p>The experiment may provide data about how animals move from one location to another, how animal population density shifts over time, and how diseases spread.<\/p>\n<p>However, this task was troublesome and placed the spacewalk over 90 minutes behind schedule at one point.<\/p>\n<p>A regular exercise on a Russian EVA was the manual deployment of hardware, given Russian spacewalkers will often toss experiments and even used glove wipes into space, as opposed to bringing them back inside.<\/p>\n<p>However, during this EVA, the \u201ctossing\u201d was required, as four small satellites began their mission during the spacewalk.<\/p>\n<p>These four small technology satellites \u2013 \u201cTanyusha-SWSU-3 &amp; 4\u201d and \u201cSiriussat-1 &amp; 2\u2033, are part of the\u201dRadioskaf \u201d program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57630\" class=\"size-full wp-image-57630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1309\" height=\"705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740.jpg 1309w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740-350x189.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740-630x339.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-08-15-152740-1170x630.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1309px) 100vw, 1309px\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-57630\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Tanyusha-YuZGU satellite \u2013 via Roscosmos<\/p>\n<p>The Tanyusha-YuZGU, also known as \u201cTanyusha-SWSU\u201d or \u201cRadioskaf RS\u201d, are small Russian experimental satellites that were developed at the Southwestern State University (SWSU, YuZGU), Kursk. The satellites include parts \u2013 mainly their baseline structure \u2013 that were constructed using a 3D printer.<\/p>\n<p>Siriussat-1 &amp; 2 are is equipped with a space particle detector for studying \u201cspace weather\u201d. The sensor was developed by the Research Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Moscow State University and was assembled with the participation of a group of schoolchildren from the Sirius Educational Center.
