The issue \u2013 since resolved \u2013 caused controllers to move to the Red FCR, per contingency procedures.<\/p>\n<p>FCR FEP Issue:<\/p>\n<p>The ISS is currently manned by a three member crew, following the successful departure of Soyuz TMA-03M (29S), carrying Russian cosmonaut and Soyuz commander Oleg Kononenko, NASA astronaut Don Pettit and ESA astronaut Andre Kuipers, who all served as part of the ISS Expedition 30 and 31 crews.<\/p>\n<p>The crew enjoyed a nominal return to Earth, landing in Kazakhstan on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c29S Undock: Soyuz 29S successfully undocked from ISS over the weekend, and the 29S crew has returned safely to the ground. All operations were nominal, including USTO (United States Thruster Only) maneuvers to and from the -XVV attitude, array positioning for undocking, and RS MCS maneuvers to and from the undocking attitude,\u201d noted L2\u2019s&nbsp;rolling&nbsp;ISS Update notes \u2013 L2 Link \u2013 on the undocking.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"widget-title penci-border-arrow\">See Also<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>ISS Forum Section<\/li>\n<li>L2 ISS Section<\/li>\n<li>Click here to Join L2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cISS Prop usage summary: 96 kg for USTO maneuvers, and 80 kg for the RS MCS maneuvers and attitude hold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Expedition 32&nbsp; \u2013 consisting of Russian commander Gennady Padalka, joined by fellow Russian Sergey Revin, and American Joe Acaba \u2013 will soon be boosted by three additional members \u2013 Russian Yuri Malenchenko, American Suni Williams, and Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide \u2013 who are set to ride uphill on their Soyuz TMA-05M\/31S spacecraft in the middle of this month.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with the ISS FCR occurred on Sunday, when controllers noted the loss of the forward link (command and voice) through the Front-End Processor (FEP). This was delayed to accommodate the troubleshooting and the move to the Red FCR.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25081\" title=\"Z5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Z52.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"228\">\u201cSunday\u2019s USTO maneuver was delayed 3 orbits (4.5 hours) due to an MCC issue that resulted in loss of forward link (ISS commanding) on Sunday,\u201d added the ISS notes (L2). \u201cThat issue has been resolved and the ISS forward link has been restored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ISS controllers all moved back into the ISS FCR (FCR-1) in the early hours of Monday after the recovery effort on the FEP was deemed to be a success.<\/p>\n<p>It was also noted that during the issue, the ISS crew did try to call down to Houston. When they gained no response, ISS commander Padalka followed procedure and called his controllers at MCC Moscow to ask what the problem was.
