Full size vehicle, full frame,\u201d noted Mark Sirangelo, Corporate Vice President and head of SNC\u2019s Space Systems in an interview with NASASpaceflight.com\u2019s Lee Jay Fingersh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll go through a series of tests which started on Tuesday (May 29). Those tests will continue into next year using this vehicle and will progressively get higher and faster and do more maneuvers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24727\" title=\"Z12\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Z12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Z12.jpg 351w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Z12-180x110.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\">That first flight test was called the Captive Carry Test, resulting in the Dream Chaser ETA taking to the air for the first time, via the help of a SkyCrane helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been working this program for now eight years and to actually see something that we built go up in the air, I think we learned that it could go in the air,\u201d added a buoyant Mr Sirangelo, after seeing his vehicle fly with the iconic Rocky Mountains as its backdrop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore importantly, what we were really trying to do \u2013 and this was somewhat of an initial test here in Colorado in part because this is our home and we wanted people to see it \u2013 but we wanted to learn how this vehicle was going to react underneath the drop carrier, in this case a Skycrane helicopter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24729\" title=\"Z68\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Z68.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"347\" height=\"327\">\u201cWe needed to be able to fly and it went through the air and we got it up to over 10,000 feet and about 90 knots. So we got to understand the aerodynamic shape, and is it going to fly steady, is it going to have any issues or oscillations. And those are all necessary before we can take it up, as we\u2019re going to do later this summer and drop it.
