Following Endeavour\u2019s final rollover for the STS-134 mission, and indeed her career, mating operations between the orbiter and the stack are complete \u2013 although her Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) operations have not been incident-free.<\/p>\n<p>STS-134 Latest:<\/p>\n<p>Endeavour\u2019s final mission is tasked with launching the AMS-02 (Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-02) to the International Space Station (ISS), whilst carrying the Express Logistics Carrier 3 (ELC-3). Also riding with Endeavour are the Materials on International Space Station Experiment 8 (MISSE 8), an Orion Rendezvous Detailed Test Objective (DTO) kit, and a GLACIER freezer module for one of the Station\u2019s science laboratories.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"widget-title penci-border-arrow\">See Also<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>STS-134 LIVE UPDATES<\/li>\n<li>L2 STS-134 Special Section<\/li>\n<li>Click here to Join L2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are internal rumors from the European Space Agency (ESA) side that the current launch target of April 19 is expected to slip a few days due to unspecified issues with the AMS payload. However, no official information \u2013 or collaboration of the rumor \u2013 has been forthcoming from the US side. Any change will be updated immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Endeavour will also return the MISSE 7a and 7b experiments to Earth as well as perform four Department of Defense payloads of opportunity: MAUI, SEITI, RAMBO-2, and SIMPLEX.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Endeavour and her six person crew will also be tasked with two Development Test Objectives \u2013 or DTOs. These include DTO 805, Crosswind Landing Performance, and DTO 703, Sensor Test for Orion Relative-Navigation Risk Mitigation (STORRM).<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18336\" title=\"A3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/A33.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"343\" height=\"226\">Endeavour rolled from her Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) last Monday morning, a short trip which took several hours, in order allow members of her dedicated team to take photographs alongside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOPF Rollout: Rollover first motion out of OPF-2 was at 0655 EST (Monday). The vehicle stopped in front of OPF-3 for photo opportunities before making its final journey into the VAB at 1050 EST,\u201d noted the NASA Test Director (NTD) processing updates (L2).<\/p>\n<p>Once inside the VAB, engineers were tasked with troubleshooting part of the large sling which is attached to the orbiter, allowing for two cranes to lift the vehicle vertical for the trip over from the transfer aisle into High Bay 3 (HB-3) \u2013 the location of the External Tank (ET-122) and Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs).<\/p>\n<p>     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18337\" title=\"A4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/A42.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"343\" height=\"237\">\u201cS0004 Orbiter\/ET mate: The vehicle was spotted in the VAB transfer aisle at 1113 EST (Monday). During sling attachment to the orbiter, binding was detected during mate of the right hand aft sling adapter. The sling was removed and the RH (Right Hand) aft cup was replaced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sling was then mated without issue. The discrepancy was documented on the Problem Report (PR). Orbiter lift off of the OTS (Orbiter Transporter System) and rotate to vertical is complete. Removal of the aft spreader beam followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18338\" title=\"A5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/A53.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"239\">With Endeavour slowly lowered to her awaiting tank and boosters, mating operations began with soft mate and ordnance installation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cS0004 Orbiter\/ET mate: The vehicle was lifted up and over the transom and lowered into HB3,\u201d added the NTD report. \u201cAft soft mate was completed at 2013 EST (Tuesday). Fwd soft mate was completed at 0140 EST (Wednesday). Forward hard mate was completed at 0425 EST.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forward sling attach point removal followed, with sling disassembly, platform extensions, and LO2\/LH2 T-0 carrier mates tasks carried out by the end of Wednesday. LO2\/LH2 umbilical ordnance installation and monoball installation with electrical mate operations also took place.<\/p>\n<p>VAB platform extensions then surrounded the vehicle, allowing for access to Endeavour\u2019s aft. It was during these operations when two accidents resulted in damage to two of Endeavour\u2019s Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18339\" title=\"A7\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/A7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"256\">\u201cS0004 Orbiter\/ET mate: During Aft platform installations, two incidents occurred. On the 50-1 side, an ELSA (Emergency Life Saving Apparatus) became dislodged from the sidewall shelf and fell to the base heat shield area near SSME 2. No personnel injury,\u201d the NTD noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the 50-2 side, a small filler platform fell and contacted \u201cPurge, Vent, Duct (PVD)\u201d ducting for SSME 3 Engine controller. No personnel injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The damage to SSME 2 is deemed minor, after inspections found the only damage was a dent on the eyelid on the engine \u2013 resulting in Engineering deciding this most likely will not need to be repaired and will be Material Reviewed to fly as-is.<\/p>\n<p>SSME 3 will, however, require some of its hardware replacing, with a dent in an MPS (Main Propulsion System) GN2 line and some damage to the PVD duct. This work will not delay rollout, scheduled for the end of this coming week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPer PVD Engineering, the PVD duct will have to be R&amp;R\u2019d (Removed and Replaced). There is a spare available,\u201d added the NTD report. \u201cMPS performed mold impressions on the damage to the GN2 purge line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>STS-134 Specific Articles: http:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/tag\/sts-134\/<\/p>\n<p>Bar troubleshooting on a minor leak in a relief valve on the Mobile Launch Platform (MLP) the vehicle is sat on, the rest of the VAB flow is proceeding in a nominal fashion. Also, the S0044 Shuttle Countdown Simulation was successfully completed earlier in the week, while the S0008 Shuttle Interface Test began Friday and continued through the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGUCP (Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate ) measurements are complete and data has been given to engineering. GUCP 7\u201d QD (Quick Disconnect) installation and Hatch Functional are complete,\u201d added the NTD report.<\/p>\n<p>(Numerous articles will follow.
