Originally, this removal included the inadvertent inclusion of the removal of an air duct that is used to support tank sets 3 and 5.<\/p>\n<p>This inadvertent demanifestation of the air duct for tank set 3 (which is still installed on Discovery) was immediately reversed and will be left installed to \u201csupport tank set 3 LH purge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the LSFR notes several (5 total) potential modifications to Discovery that could be implemented pending approval and processing flow time constraints.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14926\" title=\"A3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A34.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"182\">The first potential modification includes an increase to the Boundary Layer Transition (BLT) DTO (Detailed Test Objective) protuberance tile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRe-flight of protuberance tile and associated thermocouple installation with likely protuberance height increase to 0.50-inches,\u201d notes the LSFR document.<\/p>\n<p>A thermal analysis conducted on May 10 found no issues with a protuberance tile height of 0.50-inches.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, \u201cProtuberance tiles with height options of 0.35\u2033, 0.45\u2033 and 0.50\u2033 are being fabricated \u2013 engineering release for chosen option to be released by June 11 in support of GO implementation schedule,\u201d notes the LSFR presentation.<\/p>\n<p>A baseline of the BLT DTO tile height is scheduled for the Program Requirements Control Board (PRCB)\/Delta PRCB on June 10.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14927\" title=\"A4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A44.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"246\">In line with the BLT DTO, consideration is also being given to a re-flight of the catalytic coating DTO (3rd flight total) on a downstream BLT DTO TPS (Thermal Protection System) tile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShelf life extension testing of existing lot of catalytic coating completed with no issues. Thermal analysis shows no concern with heating from larger 0.50-inch protuberance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If a re-flight is approved, there would be no configuration change to the catalytic coating DTO from Discovery\u2019s previous flight; therefore, no modification would need to be baselined.<\/p>\n<p>The only forward work necessary would be the removal and replacement of the STS-131 catalytic coating tile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14928\" title=\"A47\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A47.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A47.jpg 352w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A47-350x265.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\">Switching gears, the third potential modification relates to the Ceramic Insert Plugs what have been seen to liberate on recent missions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTPS PRT recommendation for corrective actions related to ceramic insert plug loss \/ protrusion as seen on STS-131,\u201d notes the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>The modification would change the \u201cplug braided cord\u201d in order to \u201creduce configuration variability and provide plug installation running torque consistency to improve plug retention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This modification would be fleet wide.<\/p>\n<p>Also on tap for potential implementation on Discovery for STS-133 is the inclusion of Port and Starboard WLE (Wing Leading Edge) reference marks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagery has determined the docked OBSS (Orbiter Boom Sensor System) LDRI (Laser Dynamic Range Imager) inspection involves different trajectories from the nominal OBSS survey, due to ISS hardware considerations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPan and tilt unit (PTU) adjustments for proper LDRI sensor pointing made during survey auto-sequences are based on visual cues from the LDRI imagery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LSFR presentation notes that the flight-specific pause points for the various views of the WLE surfaces are \u201cfairly nondescript.\u201d As a result, a recommendation has been brought forward to add \u201cposition identifying symbols\u201d on both the port and starboard WLE RCC (Reinforced Carbon-Carbon) panels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14930\" title=\"A66\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A66.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"236\">This will \u201cfacilitate the survey and help diminish the likelihood of missed coverage during a contingency docked late inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These reference marks, if approved, will be applied to the WLE RCC panels with an \u201capproved black Sharpie\u201d in a manner similar to the already sharpie-applied reference marks on the nose cap RCC of all three orbiters.<\/p>\n<p>A Change Request for this modification will be processed \u201cat a later date\u201d and will be similar to the Change Request processed for STS-134 on Endeavour.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth and final potential modification gained relatively little note in the LSFR. \u201cMEI Instrumentation Filter Tech Order Configuration: Tech order M072-755113-004 update to be picked up in STS-133 MECSLSI (post STS-133 LSFR change). -004 documents acoustic sensor filters added late in the STS-131 flow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the potential modifications to Discovery reviewed, the LSFR document goes on to discuss three (3) opportunity modifications that have already been presented to and approved by the PRCB and are simply waiting for enough time in an OPF flow to be brought to completion.<\/p>\n<p>The first opportunity modification is a WLE Spar \u201cSneak Flow\u201d protection installation that would increase the damage tolerance of the WLE RCC panels by \u201cadding a flow restrictor to limit allowable plume flow to 50% across the flow restrictor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14929\" title=\"A324\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A324.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"342\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A324.jpg 342w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/A324-263x175.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\">This modification is nearly complete thanks to work done on previous OPF flows.
