Endeavour\u2019s arrival was preceeded by the visually stunning RPM (Rbar Pitch Maneuver).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The photos taken by the ISS crew during Endeavour\u2019s backflip will be added to the arsenal of data gained on the health of the orbiter\u2019s TPS (Thermal Protection System). Any areas of interest can be further evaluated via a Focused Inspection.<\/p>\n<p>Should that be called, workarounds will be put into action \u2013 should the inspection be related to a few areas on the starboard wing \u2013 due to \u2018structural interference\u2019 via the soon-to-be installed \u201cLeonardo\u201d Multi-Purpose Logistics Module (MPLM), that Endeavour has brought to the Station.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7981\" style=\"black 5px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/a219-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/a219-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nasaspaceflight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/a219.jpg 332w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\">\u201cFocused Inspection constraints: Limited capability to perform starboard wing Focused Inspection (FI) while docked. SRMS\/OBSS (Shuttle Remote Manipulator System\/Orbiter Boom Sensor System) structural interference once MPLM installed at Node 2 Nadir,\u201d noted an associated Flight Readiness Review (FRR) presentation on L2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlternate timeline developed for starboard wingtip FI. Back up plan is to delay MPLM and EVA activities by one day each (uses +1 day on FD4): FD4 \u2013 Focused Inspection crew procedure review, Focused Inspection, middeck transfer. FD5 \u2013 MPLM install and Ingress. FD6 \u2013 EVA 1<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOPO (Orbiter Project Office) and DAT (Damage Assessment Team) plan to prioritize starboard wing imagery during standard FD3 reviews. Flight Control Team (FCT) will need a decision on Starboard Wing FI by start of crew sleep on FD3. FCT will make a real-time call regarding MPLM Install Go\/No-Go decision on FD4<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFocused Inspection for areas other than area shadowed by MPLM on starboard wing will take place on FD6 (if required). A slight docking misalignment was soon rectified, ahead of hatch opening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday has been another great day for human space flight,\u201d noted deputy shuttle manager and Mission Management Team (MMT) chair, Leroy Cain. \u201cAll of the teams across the country are very excited about what we\u2019re about to embark on. It\u2019s been a great day so far. The mission is just really getting underway now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Endeavour arrives at the orbital outpost with equipment that will prove vital for the future expansion to a six crew Station. The payload also includes a Water Processor Assembly (WPA) and the Urine Processor Assembly (UPA), which are the less glamorous, but essential components for long duration space flight.<\/p>\n<p>STS-126\/ULF2 has brought the following six-person crew hardware to ISS: Water Recovery System (WRS) Rack #1. WRS #2. Waste and Hygiene Compartment (WHC). Galley (Express Rack #6). Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED). Crew Quarters (2). Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOCA), and Food Warmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe WRS and WHC racks will be outfitted with loose hardware also launched on STS-126\/ULF2. The Water Processor Assembly (WPA) and the Urine Processor Assembly (UPA) will be activated during the docked mission to process urine from a Russian water container, return that sample for ground processing, and process an onboard sample using the TOCA.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"widget-title penci-border-arrow\">See Also<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>STS-126 LIVE UPDATES<\/li>\n<li>L2 STS-126 MMT Level Coverage<\/li>\n<li>Click here to Join L2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Items are already being transferred from Endeavour\u2019s middeck, which includes several items for the upcoming EVAs, which are an important series of spacewalks to troubleshoot the troublesome starboard SARJ (Solar Alpha Rotary Joint).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the course of EVAs 1, 2, and 3, the crew will clean and lubricate the race ring, and change out 11 Trundle Bearing Assemblies (TBAs) on the Starboard SARJ,\u201d noted FRR documentation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Port SARJ will be cleaned and lubricated as a pre-emptive measure to mitigate the potential for the friction-induced issues seen on the Starboard SARJ. Lubrication will be applied to 50 percent of the surface, relying on SARJ rotation to spread to the remaining surface.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe positioning of both the Starboard and Port SARJs is critical to the success of the EVA choreography and cover removal plan on all EVAs and is defined in ULF2_B2-XX<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStarboard SARJ to be at a position of 105 degrees for EVA 1 and then 60 degrees for EVAs 2 and 3. This allows for clean race ring to be rotated under the Drive Latch Assemblies (DLAs), which are not being removed for cleaning. EVA 4 must start off with the Port SARJ at either 30 or 210 degrees for both applications of lubrication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the Mission Management Team (MMT) meeting, it was confirmed that only one debris event is being looked into at this time. Now timed at T+25 seconds, the event was believed to be a strip of thermal blanket.<\/p>\n<p>However, on orbit imagery now confirms the area in question to be intact.
