The spacecraft was supplied by prime contractor Thales Alenia Space, and utilizes a STAR-2 spacecraft manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation.<\/p>\n In addition to providing comprehensive service over the 50 U.S. states, AMC-21 also will offer high-power coverage for the Gulf of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n After its launch by Ariane 5, AMC-21 will be positioned at 125 deg. West for a design operational lifetime of 15 years.<\/p>\n Arianespace has served the launch needs of SES and its predecessor companies for nearly 25 years, beginning with the Spacenet 1 satellite \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which was orbited on the first ever Arianespace mission in May, 1984.<\/p>\n AMC-21 will be the lower passenger, with the upper component consists of Japan\u2019s Superbird-7 satellite and the SYLDA 5 payload dispenser\u00c2 \u2013 both of which are encapsulated in Ariane 5\u2019s long payload fairing.
