transform: initial !important; vertical-align: initial !important; visibility: inherit !important;\"><\/path>\n<p>     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><em>**STS-124 News Articles**<\/em><\/font><\/p>\n<p><em>**ALL STS-124 NASA TV videos (media briefings, booster videos, flight day highlights etc. Available and downloadable for FREE**<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><u><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>STS-124 Flight Day 14 Debris event:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">  <\/font><\/p>\n<p>The event was observed by the crew onboard Discovery just after the normal EOM-1 (End Of Mission) operations.<\/p>\n<p>These operations include the checkout of the Flight Control System, the activation of one Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) in order to power Discovery\u2019s aerosurfaces, and the Reaction Control System (RCS) hot fire test.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;item liberated from the vehicle shortly after the aerosurface and RCS checks, with initial evaluations classing the debris as ice.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018High level of confidence that the observed debris is ice,\u2019 noted one e-mail.&nbsp;\u2018Processing of the imagery is continuing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"143\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1862.0;attach=82604;image\" width=\"277\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\/\">The other candidate was a&nbsp;liberation of one of the metal seals between the Rudder Speed Brake&nbsp;(RSB) panels. <\/p>\n<p>This became the favorite later in the evaluations, when a set of hi resolution images were sent down to the ground from the&nbsp;Discovery crew.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The loss of one of these seals, or clips, there remains no concern for re-entry.<\/p>\n<p>The other item of interest, the protruding area of TPS that has been observed on Discovery\u2019s RSB, is not believed to be related to the debris event.<\/p>\n<p>This area of interest is understood to be a splitline thermal barrier \u2013&nbsp;which sticks out by design.<\/p>\n<p>Other event for Flight Day 14 include continued cabin stowage, Garrett Riesman\u2019s recumbent seat being set up \u2013 following his stay&nbsp;on the International Space Station, a crew deorbit briefing, and the stowage of the Ku-band antenna.<\/p>\n<p>A FES (Flash Evaporator System) dump is also on the schedule, in order to tweak the water quantities for entry.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Shannon\u2019s praise:<\/u><\/em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, evaluations are continuing with the damage to the Flame Trench on Pad 39A, along with checks into potential voids on Pad 39B. <\/p>\n<p>The repair options will be finalized on June 20, ahead of hearing \u2018the whole story\u2019 on Pad A at the June 26 PRCB (Program Requirements Control Board) meeting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"170\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3993.0;attach=78737;image\" width=\"239\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\/\"><em><font color=\"#0033ff\">**New L2 Trailer Video, with examples of L2 content&nbsp;\u2013 <\/font><font color=\"#ff0000\">TRAILER NOW AVAILABLE \u2013 CLICK IMAGE**<\/font>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>While co-chair of the Mission Management Team (MMT) Leroy Cain addressed the media on Thursday, Space Shuttle Program manager John Shannon sent an e-mail to his team to assure there won\u2019t be a delay to STS-125\u2019s launch \u2013 targeting October 8 \u2013 and to enjoy the gap between the conclusion of STS-124\u2019s mission and the mission to service Hubble. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018NASA launched a new observatory. Phoenix got some dirt in their oven (which is good). The third space story for the day was this incredibly smooth Shuttle flight; at the end of the mission we delivered the largest lab to the Space Station,\u2019 wrote Shannon. \u2018It\u2019s a great time to be in the space business. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018(I\u2019m) very proud of this team because of all its great work. It really looks like the team has gotten back on stride. \u2018We\u2019ll have a little delay while we gear up for Hubble and the special Launch-on-Need plan for that mission. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s going to be a good time. We\u2019ll be able to take a little time with our families and rest up a bit. We\u2019ll get to work off some of the issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Cape folks will be going full steam on the pad repairs. Don\u2019t see how that will delay us or effect us in the manifest at all. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Got a report at the schedules telecon that the ET team is back on track and appears can support the manifest with some margin. That was a great story.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s just a great time right now. Take the little breather we will have after this flight. We\u2019ll come back and hit the Hubble really hard.
