In September 2005 he returned to NASA as Associate Administrator for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018I will be departing on or about October 1st of this year which will mark the end of my \u20182 year tour of duty,\u2019 he wrote in a memo to the NASA workforce on Wednesday.&nbsp;\u2018I need to devote more attention to my family responsibilities. I will discuss in more detail at our All Hands meeting next week. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is an honor and a privilege to serve our country, NASA, our administrator, and to work with such an outstanding group of people on such an incredible adventure. <\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018We have come a long way and have a lot more to do during the next&nbsp;three months until my successor takes the helm.\u2019<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">The 50 year old joined NASA in 1992, following an extensive career with the air force.
