transform: initial !important; vertical-align: initial !important; visibility: inherit !important;\"><\/path>\n<p>     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/p>\n<p>NASA made two attempts to wait for the weather to improve in Florida, which would have allowed Atlantis to be returned to her OPF (Orbiter Processing Facility) the same day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment -->\u2018We just couldn\u2019t quite get comfortable with KSC,\u2019 said CAPCOM Tony&nbsp;<!--StartFragment -->Antonelli&nbsp;to Atlantis commander Rick Sturckow.<\/p>\n<p>However, with great weather in California, the decision was to take the first Edwards opportunity for landing.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s great to be back,\u2019 said Sturckow, standing in front of the gathered media, with Atlantis behind him. \u2018The mission had a lot of challengers, but all the solutions worked well and we had a very successful flight, so thanks to everyone in Houston.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During re-entry, Atlantis performed without any anomalies, in what was a very quiet return to Earth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"130\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/forums\/get-attachment.asp?action=view&amp;attachmentid=13815\" width=\"200\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\/\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">**Ride home through the fire and plasma of re-entry with Atlantis on STS-115 \u2013&nbsp;And&nbsp;now also with&nbsp;Discovery on STS-116&nbsp;\u2013 TWO Stunning high quality&nbsp;2hr, 355mb videos \u2013 from deorbit burn to post landing**<\/font><\/p>\n<p>An issue with the MLS (Microwave Landing System) before launch did not appear during landing, and from initial reports, the repair to the Port OMS pod \u2013 conducted on EVA-3 \u2013 appears to have performed well.<\/p>\n<p>Praise for those involved came from the top also, with NASA associate administrator Bill Gerstenmaier recognizing the many teams that are involved with launching and landing a space shuttle. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018This is really a great and awesome mission,\u2019 said Gerstenmaier. \u2018What I\u2019ll remember most from this mission is the teamwork involved, and I\u2019ll remember all the things that went right on this extremely challenging mission. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Some of the teams that contributed to the overall success included the External Tank team \u2013 who I knew in my heart would get the tank (repaired and ready for flight). The \u2018unsung\u2019 payload team, that kept the payload batteries charged out at the pad whilst the tank was getting worked on back in the VAB. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018The SRB booster team, who we don\u2019t hear a lot about, but they brought the boosters back in time so that we could get a look at the video and see when the OMS Pod blanket folded back. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Robotics team that designed the movement of the payload and the handoff did a great job, along with the flight controllers \u2013 who sent thousands of commands during this mission and did a great job, and the flight crew that did a great job on orbit.
