Small foam liberation (one event) noted late in ascent \u2013 no concerns noted.<\/p>\n<p><em><font size=\"3\">Refer to live update thread for up to the second updates.<\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"3\">    <font size=\"2\"><\/font>    <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">In what appears to be a flawless launch \u2013 on the final opportunity in the current window \u2013 Atlantis is now in orbit, preparing for Monday\u2019s docking with the ISS.<\/p>\n<p>During the post-launch press conference, NASA Administrator Mike Griffin acknowledged the problems that had delayed Atlantis\u2019 launch until today, but noted the triumph in NASA\u2019s ability to finally launch \u2013 and restart ISS assembly missions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Once again it is an honour to be associated with this program and this team,\u2019 said Griffin. \u2018What you saw today was a flawless count and a majestic launch \u2013 but it was tough to get here.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">\u2018This vehicle had not flown in many years and not everything leading up to this day was easy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Any day we launch the Space Shuttle is a great day,\u2019 added KSC manager Leroy Cain. \u2018The team did a fabulous job today.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Cain also made a point about how uneventful the launch countdown was, as no issues \u2013 unlike the previous attempt \u2013 arose during the 11 hour countdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was looking to make some notes about what I might talk to you about today,\u2019 he added. \u2018I brought by console notes, but it\u2019s kinda \u2018On Console, Go for launch, Launch, MECO (Main Engine Cut Off), and there\u2019s not a whole lot more in-between there!<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m here representing the Mission Management Team (MMT) and I\u2019m privilaged to chair that group of folks \u2013 it\u2019s an outstanding group of individuals, that represent an even larger world class team.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>One of the highlights of the countdown were comments from Atlantis\u2019 Commander Brent Jett, who made a great speech prior to lift off, ensuring everyone listening were fully aware of yet another new chapter of the Space Shuttle program was being opened.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">\u2018It\u2019s been almost four years, two Return to Flight missions, a tremendous amount of work by thousands of individuals to get the shuttle program back to where we are right now and that\u2019s on the verge of restarting the station assembly sequence,\u2019 said Jett. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019re confident over the next few weeks, and few years for that matter, that NASA\u2019s going to prove to our nation, to our partners and our friends around the world that it was worth the wait and the sacrifice.
