{"id":42024,"date":"2006-07-01T17:25:33","date_gmt":"2006-07-01T09:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/sts-121-first-attempt-scrub\/"},"modified":"2006-07-01T17:25:33","modified_gmt":"2006-07-01T09:25:33","slug":"sts-121-first-attempt-scrub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/sts-121-first-attempt-scrub\/","title":{"rendered":"STS-121 First Attempt \u2013 SCRUB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shuttle Discovery has scrubbed her launch attempt for second test flight mission STS-121, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.  <\/p>\n<p>  The first launch opportunity was targeted for 3:50pm local time (8:50pm UK time) \u2013  but the weather constraint \u2013 notably anvil clouds over the RTLS abort (Return To Landing Site) flight path \u2013 proved to be too much to overcome before the end of the launch window.\n<\/p>\n<p><em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"88\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/logo.cafepress.com\/3\/4811501.1268853.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"150\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/em><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">NASASpaceflight.com has started live coverage of the event, with expert commentary, images, video and source information provided on the links below.<\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">**STS-121: Launch Attempt 1: July 1 Update Pages**<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;\u2013 One stop live&nbsp;updates.<\/p>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\">Key points during the countdown:<\/p>\n<p>ECO (Engine Cut Off sensors) has no issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\">ECOs do look okay; they performed the \u2018switchout\u2019 test as planned (after both LO2 and LH2&nbsp;five percent&nbsp;sensors indicated wet) and all the sensors switched to DRY, which indicated that they work properly,\u2019 noted a source.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>\u2018They\u2019ve been switched back to WET, although I don\u2019t know why so early \u2013 they \u2018normally\u2019 do that around the end of the T-9 minute hold.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Off nominal update round up:<\/p>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"160\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/forums\/get-attachment.asp?action=view&amp;attachmentid=7360\" width=\"120\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">A potential scrub issue was noted this morning, due to&nbsp;Orbiter RCS (Reaction Control System) heater problem. <br \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Troubleshooting was on-going throughout the countdown, with the decision to proceed to fly \u2018as is\u2019 after a management\/engineering meeting classed the fault as not a constraint for launch. <\/p>\n<p>NASA refer to an issue with the heater on the venire control system on the left OMS pod.\u2019<br \/><\/font><br \/><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018There is some discussion over whether or not to continue to prepress <b><\/b>(to test the prepress system<b><\/b>) if we do scrub,\u2019 noted a source, speaking earlier about the potential of testing the tank despite a scrub being called.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Preview:<\/p>\n<p>Discovery\u2019s mission currently has no \u2018poke-outs\u2019 from the Management Mission Team (MMT), who last noted: \u2018No formal constraints to STS-121 launch were identified at the MMT. All MMT members were GO.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The last issues to be worked out in preparation for this launch were deemed minor, including a Radiator Retract Hose issue, Tyvek Cover replacement \u2013 and a slight delay for the official go for the Eastern Range. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Other issues noted: \u2018Lightning strike \u2013 3 ground cameras were affected are back up and operational.
