{"id":42044,"date":"2006-06-12T23:57:30","date_gmt":"2006-06-12T15:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/sea-launch-gains-boeings-thuraya-3-contract\/"},"modified":"2006-06-12T23:57:30","modified_gmt":"2006-06-12T15:57:30","slug":"sea-launch-gains-boeings-thuraya-3-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/sea-launch-gains-boeings-thuraya-3-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Sea Launch gains Boeing\u2019s Thuraya-3 contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The third of its fleet, the Boeing Thuraya-3 will be launched via Sea Launch\u2019s Zenit-3SL launch vehicle to a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) in January 2007.  <\/p>\n<p>  Sea Launch are in action this coming Saturday morning with the launch of the Galaxy 16 communications satellite \u2013 which will be covered by NASASpaceflight as a live launch event.\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"126\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/forums\/get-attachment.asp?action=view&amp;attachmentid=5995\" width=\"213\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">The contract, signed with Boeing Satellite Systems International, follows the successful launches of Thuraya-1 and Thuraya-2 in 2000 and 2003 respectfully.<\/font>  <font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/font>  <font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Boeing is designing and building the 5,250-kilogram (11,578-pound) GEO-Mobile spacecraft for the Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, at&nbsp;Boeing\u2019s Satellite Development Center in El Segundo, California.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Sea Launch successfully launched Thuraya-1 (in October 2000) and Thuraya-2 (in June 2003),\u2019 said Rob Peckham, president and general manager of Sea Launch.<\/font>  <font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/font>  <!--StartFragment --><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"125\" alt=\"Click Here For The Wall Street Journal Online\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/image-1911168-8353387\" width=\"125\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">Thuraya was founded in the UAE in 1997 by a consortium of leading national telecommunications operators and international investment houses. The turnkey project was built by US satellite manufacturer Boeing Satellite Systems formerly Hughes. <\/font>  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">The Thuraya-1 satellite was successfully launched on board a Sea Launch Zenit-3SL rocket from the equator in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on 21st October 2000. The launch was a record success, as it was the first satellite initiated from the Middle East and also the satellite was the heaviest to be launched ever.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Thuraya\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s second satellite Thuraya 2 was launched on the 10th of June 2003 while a third satellite is being built by Boeing Satellite Systems to expand system capacity.
