{"id":42078,"date":"2006-05-01T23:35:14","date_gmt":"2006-05-01T15:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/discovery-and-atlantis-on-schedule\/"},"modified":"2006-05-01T23:35:14","modified_gmt":"2006-05-01T15:35:14","slug":"discovery-and-atlantis-on-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/discovery-and-atlantis-on-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Discovery and Atlantis \u2013 on schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In-depth processing flow charts and information acquired by NASASpaceflight.com show that both Discovery and Atlantis are in a smooth launch processing flow, with only a few issues in works.  <\/p>\n<p>  The move to a July window for the second Return to Flight test mission, STS-121, has given a margin of contingency that has aided the processing of the two orbiters, targeting missions in July and August respectively.<br \/>\n<font color=\"#ff0000\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/logo2_1bk.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/em><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em>The following information was collated from&nbsp;two documents,&nbsp;the primary dated April&nbsp;27. Selected scans are available (click images below \u2013 full documents available on L2).<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/font>  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\"><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\"><br \/>Ultimately, the processing of both orbiters has to remain on track to allow Discovery\u2019s mission to proceed as planned, due to Atlantis supporting role on the standby STS-300 rescue mission. <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"110\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/forums\/get-attachment.asp?action=view&amp;attachmentid=4840\" width=\"200\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">A document, dated April 27 shows Discovery is on target for the opening of her launch window, as it noted the \u2018overall processing schedule is assessed to a July 1st launch date,\u2019 with \u2018the assessment of critical path items assumes some level of contingency or margin in the schedule, based on the July 1st launch date.\u2019<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Threats to reducing the amount of contingency in the launch flow are tagged green, yellow and red. Only items noted as red have the potential to impact on the launch window. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">  <\/p>\n<p><em><font color=\"#ff0000\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/AdBanners\/storelogo3.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p>On the red side of processing towards July 1, the document indicates that only the issues of Tin Whiskers (RJD) and Window Bruising (windows 6,7 and 11) \u2013&nbsp;added to&nbsp;any major issues found during and after the Tanking Test on June 1 \u2013 have the potential for impacting on the launch flow to July 1. <\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">One of the buzz words in early launch processing, the gap filler pull, test and replace work, is on schedule for Discovery, with one of the&nbsp;remaining areas in works (1A upper), added to pre-rollover inspections. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Discovery is set to make her short trip to the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) on May 12, leaving the VAB as the STS-121 stack for the trip to the launch pad a week later.
