{"id":42101,"date":"2006-04-07T17:12:54","date_gmt":"2006-04-07T09:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/lockheed-happy-with-eco-changeout\/"},"modified":"2006-04-07T17:12:54","modified_gmt":"2006-04-07T09:12:54","slug":"lockheed-happy-with-eco-changeout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/lockheed-happy-with-eco-changeout\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockheed happy with ECO changeout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lockheed Martin technicians are in the final stages of closing out work on the aft of ET-119, following the changeout of the tank\u2019s ECO (Engine Cut Off) sensors.  <\/p>\n<p>  The tank is currently in the horizontal position, with TPS (Thermal Protection System) foam being re-applied to its aft dome section, ahead of being stacked and mated with the two SRBs (Solid Rocket Boosters) that will make up STS-121.<br \/>\n<font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"125\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/image-1911168-6300915\" width=\"125\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">  <\/p>\n<p>\u2018So far the work is going pretty well. The key to any success is the pre-work, the planning and reviewing all the paper,\u2019 Jim Feeley, ET launch integration senior manager, in an address to Michoud workers in New Orleans. \u2018I attribute our progress to the hard work of the team involved.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">The replacement and leak testing of the tank took place a few days ago, after the manhole \u2013 used to access inside of the tank \u2013 was reinstalled. The Lockheed team had to wait for the replacement work to the vent and relief valve at the top of the tank to be completed \u2013 after tests showed it was \u2018leaking slightly\u2019. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/logo2_1bk.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">The vent valve controls tank pressure during propellant loading \u2013 and acts as a safeguard against over pressurization. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018We always do the aft TPS closeout when the tank is horizontal at Michoud so we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re following that same process at KSC,\u2019 Feeley said in reference to waiting for the tank to be moved back to the horizontal.<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"60\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/image-1911168-10415279\" width=\"120\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"60\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"10\" src=\"http:\/\/www.awltovhc.com\/image-1911168-10419894\" width=\"120\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"10\" border=\"0\"><br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; <em><u>LIVE NEWS&nbsp;UPDATES<br \/><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Some extra work had to be done to the top of the tank, after technicians removed duct tape over a light stand cord to reposition the fixture for better viewing of the vent\/relief valve inadvertently tugged on the power cord pulled the fixture over, first hitting the guardrail, then the composite nosecone and forward ogive foam. <\/p>\n<p>The light fixture made several small indentations, one approximately seven inches long in the foam.
