{"id":42104,"date":"2006-04-06T01:45:18","date_gmt":"2006-04-05T17:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/atlas-5-wdr-complete-following-leak\/"},"modified":"2006-04-06T01:45:18","modified_gmt":"2006-04-05T17:45:18","slug":"atlas-5-wdr-complete-following-leak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/atlas-5-wdr-complete-following-leak\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlas 5 WDR complete following leak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Atlas 5 launch vehicle and its Centaur upper stage \u2013 minus its payload \u2013 successfully conducted its WDR (Wet Dress Rehearsal) yesterday, despite a helium leak at the launch pad a day previously.  <\/p>\n<p>  The Atlas 5 (AV-008) is scheduled to launch the ASTRA 1KR broadcasting satellite from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on April 20th.\n<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/logo2_1bk.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\">Such was the extent of the leak, workers ran out of helium \u2013 used to purge the Atlas\u2019 LH2 propulsion system components, so as to ensure the LH2 doesn\u2019t turn water vapour in the air into ice during fuelling.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">The fault is believed to be related to the launch pad (SLC-41), specifically a vent valve on one of the Helium Purge panels on the Mobile Launch Platform (MLP) \u2013 and areas of the plumbing at the pad.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">However, the WDR went ahead as planned and the launch remains on schedule for later this month. It will be conducted by ILS (International Launch Services).<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"60\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/image-1911168-10415279\" width=\"120\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"60\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"10\" src=\"http:\/\/www.awltovhc.com\/image-1911168-10419894\" width=\"120\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"10\" border=\"0\"><br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <em><u>LIVE EVENT&nbsp;LAUNCH PAGES<br \/><\/u><\/em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\"><br \/>ASTRA 1KR is one of two ASTRA satellites scheduled for launch this year, with ASTRA 1L scheduled for the fourth quarter 2006. Both of the high-powered communications satellites will have a minimum service lives of 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>ASTRA 1KR will join the seven ASTRA satellites currently co-positioned at the prime orbital position 19.2 degrees East, utilising 32 active Ku band transponders in the FSS band, with a TWTA output power of 140 watts and a pan-European footprint.
