NASA is still capable of three missions this year.\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/AdBanners\/logo2_1bk.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><em><font face=\"Arial\">The latest breaking news, live to your inbox, plus much more \u2013 <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Arial\">Join L2 today.<\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/font>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">  <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">  <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">Previously slatted for a NET window of December 7, Atlantis\u2019 mission is the third International Space Station Assembly flight, post STS-121 \u2013 which is primarily a test mission, to evaluate the reduction in foam liberation on the External Tank (ET), post PAL ramp removal.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">STS-117 (ISS Assembly flight 13A) will carry the S3\/S4 truss to the ISS and will be&nbsp;the 28th mission undertaken by Atlantis.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">The move has very little impact on the 17 flight Shuttle manifest, as the mission moves into a&nbsp;empty period&nbsp;in flights, with the mission to follow (STS-118 with Endeavour) currently on a NET window beginning April 19, 2007<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">Three flights in 2006 will still be based on processing flows, positive results on the performance of ET-119 with Discovery on STS-121, plus ET availability at the Michoud Assembly Facility.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Lockheed and MAF currently have ET-118 set to ship from New Orleans next month, with the tank set to fly with Atlantis on STS-115. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">The next tank to ship is likely to be between ET-120 \u2013 which had been set to fly with Discovery last year on STS-114, before problems with its ECO (Engine Cut Off) sensors, plus&nbsp;<\/font><font face=\"Arial\">nearly double the normal amount of cycles through the LH2 pressurization relief valve (hydrogen vent valve), <\/font><font face=\"Arial\">saw a rollback and tank swap with ET-121 \u2013 and ET-93. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/AdBanners\/storelogo3.jpg\" width=\"182\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Both tanks are currently classed as \u2018test articles\u2019 \u2013 aiding Wind Tunnel computer evaluations, while undergoing modifications on their PAL ramps and ice\/frost ramps. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">However, Shuttle manager Wayne Hale is confident that three missions can be launched in 2006.<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018I do think it\u2019s possible, we do need to work on the schedule a little bit and see how quickly we can get the vehicles turned around, but I wouldn\u2019t take that off the table at this point,\u2019 he said. <\/font><\/p>\n<p>  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u2018I still think it\u2019s entirely possible to get three Shuttle flights in this calendar year.\u2019<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\"><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"90\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/content.nasaspaceflight.com\/library\/1016\/AdBanners\/whiteback.gif\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" width=\"182\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"60\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/image-1911168-5526129\" width=\"120\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"40\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tqlkg.com\/image-1911168-10410772\" width=\"150\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"0\"><\/font>  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<em>&nbsp;<\/em><br \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p><em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Stay up-to-date via our space flight specific forum<\/font><\/em><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As expected, STS-117 has been moved into 2007, with the new NET (No Earlier Than) date being January 18, 2007.
