{"id":42251,"date":"2005-10-25T00:17:40","date_gmt":"2005-10-24T16:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/apsco-set-to-be-born\/"},"modified":"2005-10-25T00:17:40","modified_gmt":"2005-10-24T16:17:40","slug":"apsco-set-to-be-born","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/apsco-set-to-be-born\/","title":{"rendered":"APSCO set to be born"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A powerful new space organization \u2013 led by China and Pakistan \u2013 is about to become a reality with the birth of Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) this coming Friday.  <\/p>\n<p>  The two nations will be joined by Thailand, Bangladesh, Mongolia and Peru \u2013 alongside Iran, which is bound to attract the attentions of the US Administration.<br \/>\n<font face=\"Arial\">  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\"><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The organization is being set up to join forces with nations on their respective experience, expertise and resources in developing space technology. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Argentina, Brazil and the Ukraine have also expressed an interest.&nbsp;<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\"><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The signing of the agreement between the two founder members \u2013 and the five countries joining alongside \u2013 will take place in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, with Pakistan sending their top man \u2013 SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) Chairman Major General (Retd) Raza Hussain.<\/font><\/font><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cAs per the Article 29 of the convention, APSCO is to come into force,\u201d he said. \u201cAt least five States in the region \u2013 who are also members of the United Nations \u2013 have signed it and have deposited with the host government their instruments of ratification or acceptance,\u201d he said to the Pakistan Daily Times.<\/font><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Top officials from the Asia Pacific Multilateral Cooperation in Space Technology and Applications (AP-MCSTA) will also be in attendance.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The countries outside the geographical region of APSCO have \u2013 like Argentina \u2013 asked for observer status, but expressed a solid interest in aligning with the likes of China, which only recently enjoyed success with their second manned space flight mission on Shenzhou VI.<\/font><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">  <\/p>\n<p>Host nation China has already agreed to fund APSCO until the end of 2006, with other member states not having to pay towards the organization until 2007.<\/p>\n<p><em>Specific Forum Debate thread: <br \/><\/em><em>http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/forums\/thread-view.asp?tid=668&amp;start=1<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A powerful new space organization \u2013 led by China and Pakistan \u2013 is about to become a reality with the birth of Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) this coming Friday.
