{"id":42305,"date":"2005-08-21T22:32:30","date_gmt":"2005-08-21T14:32:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/beautiful-discovery-arrives-home\/"},"modified":"2005-08-21T22:32:30","modified_gmt":"2005-08-21T14:32:30","slug":"beautiful-discovery-arrives-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/beautiful-discovery-arrives-home\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Beautiful\u2019 Discovery arrives home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Discovery has arrived back at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, following a two day trip across the United States on the back of a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.  <\/p>\n<p>  Discovery Astronaut Steve Robinson welcomed her home after a victory lap around the NASA facility \u2013 saying he had to watch the \u201cbeautiful bird\u201d arrive back \u201cwhere she belongs \u2013 with the people who take care of her\u201d<br \/>\n<font face=\"Arial\">  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\"><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Discovery left Edwards Air Force base in California on Friday \u2013 stopping over at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana for re-fuelling.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">After waiting for the right weather conditions, Discovery and her SCA finally made it back home to KSC on Sunday, but not before a victory lap around the expanse of the space port on Florida\u2019s east coast.<\/font><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Waiting for her at KSC&nbsp;was Robinson, who gave her a hero\u2019s welcome in front of the media that had been less than positive during the mission they shared \u2013 STS-114.<\/font><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cI spent 34 days in this vehicle in my life,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Robinson, who didn\u2019t hold back on the emotion he feels for the space ship that he has flown on several times. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Robinson also performed a famous space walk in removing two gap fillers from the belly of Discovery, before claiming \u201cThis big patient is cured.\u201d&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cAs much as a person can love a machine, I really love that bird,\u201d added Robinson, who no doubt has Discovery\u2019s thanks as well.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cLook at this magnificent site, back where she belongs with the people who take care of her. I want to thank the folks who lent us this orbiter.
