{"id":42331,"date":"2005-07-30T20:22:56","date_gmt":"2005-07-30T12:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/eva-1-another-discovery-success\/"},"modified":"2005-07-30T20:22:56","modified_gmt":"2005-07-30T12:22:56","slug":"eva-1-another-discovery-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/eva-1-another-discovery-success\/","title":{"rendered":"EVA 1 another Discovery success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Discovery have conducted the first of three spacewalks after spending the day yesterday inspecting damage sustained at lift-off.  <\/p>\n<p>  A chunk of foam fell from the shuttle\u2019s PAL Ramp section of the external tank during Tuesday\u2019s launch, similar to the problem blamed for the Columbia disaster two years ago.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The spacewalk, conducted by astronauts Stephen Robinson and Soichi Noguchi, and took six and a half hours. But he refused to rule out a second shuttle flight later in the year.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Michael Griffin said a new \u201ctiger team\u201d of engineers would seek solutions to the problem of lift-off damage.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cBy being smart and working hard,\u201d NASA might be able to launch another shuttle by year\u2019s end, he told a news conference.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cI think we\u2019re going to fix it in short order and we\u2019re going to get back flying,\u201d he said. \u201cWe don\u2019t expect this to be a long drawn-out affair, to be honest with you.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Confusion is still apparent on if the section of the PAL Ramp noted as a repaired section was indeed a patch or not.
