{"id":42362,"date":"2005-06-27T18:10:58","date_gmt":"2005-06-27T10:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/stafford-covey-clear-discovery-to-fly\/"},"modified":"2005-06-27T18:10:58","modified_gmt":"2005-06-27T10:10:58","slug":"stafford-covey-clear-discovery-to-fly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/stafford-covey-clear-discovery-to-fly\/","title":{"rendered":"Stafford-Covey clear Discovery to fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Stafford-Covey Return to Flight Task Group have praised NASA over the implementation of the 15 Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) recommendations.  <\/p>\n<p>  While \u201copen issues\u201d still remain \u2013 only partially fulfilling the final three recommendations \u2013 the Task Group will officially pass on their findings to NASA boss Mike Griffin ahead of the decision to fix the launch date for STS-114.<br \/>\n<font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><font face=\"arial\">  <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><font face=\"arial\">In a mundane and sometime un-expressive press conference, Stafford-Covey \u2013 not helped by un-imaginative questions from the media present \u2013 waited until the end of the meeting to give some clarification on where they stand in reference to STS-114.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><font face=\"arial\">  <\/p>\n<p>Noting they \u201chave appreciated the efforts\u2026.to be a harsh judge\u201d on monitoring NASA\u2019s implementation of the 15 Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) recommendations, the Task Group did give their backing to the July launch window that opens on the 13th of next month.<\/p>\n<p>While some debris analysis is on-going and some open issues will be worked on through to the opening of the launch window, the Task Group did note they are happy with how NASA has progressed to this point of being ready to return the Shuttle fleet to operations.<\/p>\n<p>The Task Group also noted they will be officially taking their findings to NASA administrator Griffin \u201cin the right context\u201d \u2013 as the Flight Readiness Review closes in and ultimately Griffin\u2019s announcement on the targeted launch date.
